The Christmas markets in Budapest are lovely. They are over a couple of sights so make sure you visit them both. (St Stephens Basilica and Vorosmarty Square) They are not massive but enough as lots of the stalls sell similar things anyway. There’s a cute light show on the Basilica which seemed to run on the hour and half past once it had dropped dark. Nice to see if you’re there.
Watch for the prices of food in particular as it is way more than the restaurant prices. We found most drinks weren’t too inflated, but food was nearly double. We thought it would be mainly cash payment but the majority offered card or were card only.

Wonderful way to learn about music and dance of the area. However, the enjoyment was visual only since the music and stories told was in Hungarian only. It seemed to be a very local event with few visitors.

Budapest did not feel like a very international city except in the wine festival where it felt a little bit different from the rest of the city. We had a 3 day travel pass so we took the public bus up to the castle and made our way to the festival. We had bought our tickets online so we just presented the online ticket and were given our wrist band. The festival is well organised, it is in a large area but well spread out with plenty of places to sit and enjoy your drink. There were many wines to try and we focused on the local Hungarian wines. The Tokaji wines we tried were particularly good. (sweet white dessert wine) this wine is a speciality of Hungary. If you are in Budapest during the annual wine festival this event is definitely worth going to.
