The Buda Castle is a mix of styles – Gothic, Romantic, and Baroque. The architecture is beautiful with all the historical buildings. We took the #16 bus/team from the Pest side and then took a tour shuttle (hop on hop off) that travels the Castle Hill route. We got off Matthias Church and did a little walking around before going over to the Fisherman’s Bastion. There are incredible panoramic views from the bastion overlooking the city and the Danube, Parliament, Margaret Island. It’s a must see. We got back on the shuttle and went to the Buda Tower and did a little walking.
Hopped back on the shuttle to the Buda Castle and Royal Palace. It’s quite an expansive area. The fountain in the main courtyard is quite impressive. We lucked out and got to see the changing of the guard and guards on horseback. We then watched some sort of exercise by the soldiers guarding the presidential offices, they marched out to drums and put on a rifle drill display. There is so much to see. We walked about and eventually made our way down to the Castle Garden Bazaar. There were some artesian vendors. The gardens are quite nice. Technically you could walk it all, however, the bus up to the Fisherman’s Bastion makes it more pleasant. It’s still a lot of walking.
