Situated in a truly beautiful area surrounded by the majestic Matthias church and Fisherman's bastion, this amazing statue sits proudly in the St Stephen's square and doesn't look out of place.
There was a lot of construction in the area but it didn't affect the viewing of this amazing statue.
It represents the first king of Hungary. Grab a photo of this when you are in the area.

Its a monument to the victims of the plague in the 1690's. It sits in the trinity square just by the Matthias church.
Its worth a look when you visit Buda Hill and take in the sights.
There was some building and restorations going on when we were there.

The monument is depicted of St Gellert who was an Italian missionary who was invited by King Stephen to Hungary to convert the natives. Unfortunately for St Gellert, the natives resisted and threw St Gellert over the edge in a spiked barrel. A bit of a gruesome way to go really.
The monument is located on the side of Gellert hill and has nice views over the Danube and of the Pest side of the city.
Its well worth a visit as its a great photo opportunity and very picturesque.

This statue is located in a park at the Buda end of the Elizabeth Bridge, which is named for her. From here you have views back across the Danube River of the Pest side.

A moving tribute to a freedom fighter against the soviets in the 50’s. In the middle of nowhere (look behind you) the monument appears. Read the bio about him as you stand there.

The Turul bird is the national symbol of Hungary and the statue is an imposing figure situated over the forecourt of the castle complex and dominates the view over the Danube.
Its an impressive statue that's well worth a look when up at the castle.

Standing between the river and the National gallery on the Buda Hill side of the Danube, the monument represents the treaty of Karlovica. The Hungarians were freed from Ottoman rule only to come under the rule of the Austrians.
Its a grand statue of a soldier mounted on a horse.
You can get good views back over Varhegy, the Danube river and the Pest side of the city.

What a cute little statue! Just look on the wall next to the side walk in the area on the map and you will find it. Also, a little further south, there is another statue of a Rubik’s cube that is worth checking out.

It's a life size statue and it's easy to view from all angles. It's got a blue color now and it's worth checking out. I liked the flowers nearby too.

When my husband and I were waiting for a restaurant to open for breakfast we wandered around and found this fountain in Corvin Square. It's of a hunter drinking and it's rather detailed. The plaque said it was erected in 1904 and is of Lajos Kutja.

If you pass on the Funicular and choose to get some exercise walking up the side of Castle Hill, one path will bring you to a courtyard on the back side of the castle. This statue sits in a little park there.

János Kapisztrán, the Franciscan friar, and Catholic priest, initially was the Judge, and after the governor of Perugia, in Italy, but in 1416 he converted and entered the Franciscan order. When he heard that the Turks besieged Nándorfehérvár, being a brave and determined priest, at the age of 70, he collected a 60,000 man crusade army and set off to the castle. Under the fortress, he met Hunyadi János and his army, but because of the Turkish ship blockade, they could not get into the castle. Later Hungarian and Rác sailors broke the embargo, and Hunyadi entered the fortress. The Crusader army also started off, and when his soldiers wanted to drag John of Capistrano to the back worrying about his life, he pulled out his favorite broadsword, then said, "Who gave the start, will give it the end!" During the battle, several more attempts were made to drag him out of the first row, but he said, "Whoever is afraid should escape, I thirsted, expected and was looking for this occasion for forty years!"
The Turks were repulsed, and the battle ended with the glorious victory of Christians. The statue depicts Janos Kapisztrán during the fight as he raises the crusader-flag, leading his crusade trampling over the dead Turks.

Following the example of Latin countries, the Hungarian authorities decided to decorate the capital with Christian symbols. Instead of Christ the Redeemer, St. Gellert was erected in front of the Erzebet Bridge, but St. Mary has been standing in the Buda Fortress since 2013... But if Gellert can be recognized by the cross raised to heaven, then Mary is more difficult to recognize. The author of the sculpture is a brave man. He made a non-canonical St. Mary. So much so that most tourists will not even understand who it is. After all, courage doesn`t guarantee talent...

Hi,

we are going for a weekend stay to budapest, mostly for Christmas markets and so on.

We are going by a car and will stay at Rákóczi út. Could anyone please advise me any parking options here? Also is this weekend free parking or is it one of those exceptions?

Thank you very much in advance.
Answer: Street parking is free on the weekend in Budapest as long as you stay in a designated space. (look for spaces at the side of the roads with blue parking meters, then read the meters to be sure).

Anywhere after 6PM Friday Night to 8AM Sunday morning should be free for you around Rákóczi út.

Honestly I think you should easily find a parking space somewhere near where you are staying simply by driving there and looking around at the street parking. You are best to to turn off onto the single lane roads and keep going round the small streets until you find a spot.

If you do struggle to find an exact spot, you could try this street - near where you are staying and has street parking on both sides of the road: https://goo.gl/maps/uqsziWVwkyt

If you still can't find a space, or wish to park in a 24 hour garage, there is one in a shopping center close to where you are staying that costs around 4000HUF (12 EUR) per day: https://goo.gl/maps/U6nzHEstbU32

My advice would be to just park your car near where you are staying and then use public transport to get around.

Hopefully this reaches you in time, good luck!
