Tip - Purchase the tickets at the site outside the church as they are not timed entry tickets. They do offer a senior discount as well as different combination tickets. We opted for everything but I did not go to the treasury as you need to take the stairs. To get to the observation dome, there are two elevators , one takes 6 people at a time and one takes 4 people at a time. IT is worth the view to go to the observation deck.

This wasn't on our list as we hadn't heard if it, but stumbled across and I'm glad we did. This is not a big ornate church like the Gaudi church or some of the more well known churches in the world but it is beautiful non the less and very charming. It is small quiet, peaceful and unique as it is built into a cave. If you are visiting the Gellert baths or the citadel this is well worth seeing it's in expensive and only takes around 20 mintues to tour around, so won't eat too much into your time, in a city where there is so much to see and do.

Beautiful views once you climb the 172 steps to the top but it’s well worth it. We waited at the top of the hour to hear the bells toll but for some reason they didn’t but we still enjoyed visiting this historic tower. There are a lot of interesting facts surrounding it so definitely go see it.

The roof of ceramic tiles is impressive. Just recently restore, it is gorgeous. Unfortunately, it was Sunday, and could get in.

St. Elizabeth Church (Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet templom) was not a part of our sightseeing list, we happened to find it on our way.

It was a discovery! The neo- gothic architecture was so impressive, especially the little statuettes created in on top on the facade of the church is brilliant! The carefully maintained garden and courtyard is also beautiful. On the whole it was a wonderful experience!

On checking the history, I found that St Elizabeth's Church is dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (a.k.a. Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia) was a medieval princess of the Kingdom of Hungary. As a political pawn used her dowry money to build a hospital where she tended to the sick. She became a symbol of Christian charity after her death at the age of 24 and was canonized in 1235.

A must-see! The only reason I rated it 4 out of 5 was because we missed seeing the inside as we had gone at a time when it was closed!

Photogenic church located on March 15 Square. Named Budapest Inner City Parish Church or officially The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church has a 1000-year history plus it stands on ground that was once a Roman fortification. However, the church has been restored several times in different architectural styles. Originally Romanesque, Gothic aspects were added, and it was restored in a baroque style after a fire in the early 1700s. At one point it was even used as a mosque during the Ottoman rule.

Side entrance, doesn't look too impressive, especially for the entrance fee (for which you get a recording to listen while walking, not bad). But once you go deeper into church/cave, more impressive it gets. I reccomend.

Located adjacent to Vajdahunyad Castle in Varosliget (City Park), this is a beautiful replica of a famous 13th century Romanesque church in the town of Jak in western Hungary. Vajdahunyad was originally constructed in 1896 during the Millennium Exhibition to celebrate the history and architecture of the country and features 4 different architecture styles including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Jaki Chapel is often used for weddings. It was unfortunately locked, and we couldn't see inside on the day we visited but I've read that the interior is not as impressive as the exterior. While lacking in any historical significance being a replica, it is still beautiful and makes for a nice photo.

Catholic church built by the Franciscans between 1727-1743 after the original church on this location was burnt down by the Ottomans. The baroque interior is beautiful. Located near Ferenciek Square. Free entrance.

This church looks OK on the outside but the inside is really gorgeous. Gold colored decorations are everywhere, along the side altars and the main altar. There are also ceiling frescos if you look up. This church is not popular with tourists. So it is peaceful and quiet inside allowing you to enjoy the beauty without being disturbed. Note that there are two St. Anne's Church in Budapest. This one is also known as the Servite Chruch. The outside is distinguished by one single tower. The other one is located on the Buda side and is distinguished by twin spires. I noticed quite a few pictures for both churches in Tripadvisor were posted to the wrong entry.

We walked past the church going to the central market and returned, as we remembered just how beautiful it is.
The ol' lady hasn't lost her charm.

We found this church by accident - it is not on the tourist route but is well worth going into. It is stunning inside and radiates peace and tranquility. Very beautiful.
