The Munkacsy Mihaly Muzeum had been reopened since the spring of this year, after years worth of renovation(which was needed).I visited it in the summer, and frankly, I was quite impressed with what I saw there! The majestic paintings of Munkacsy(which is probably the most important hungarian painter), are the focal point of the homonym museum, and are truly worth seeing and admiring.
The ladies at the museum entrance did not speak english quite well, but I could understand what she told me about the visiting order, and which exhibition should I start with.In some parts of the museum, information is written exclusively in hungarian, so if you have the bad luck of not knowing hungarian, well....better visit with a translator. The Munkacsy paintings exhibition does have translations in english too, so the biggest attraction point in the museum is covered :)

I can only reccomend visiting this Museum!
P.S. Sadly, there is no souvenir shop there...

It is a long street to walk through the city. About the half of it is only accessible by foot or bike. The bicycle lanes anyhow cover pretty much the whole city and surrounding areas. You can find shops, cafes and restaurant along the Andrassy street. At one end is the train station, at the other one is the city hall, a nice square and the beautiful catholic church of the city. At summer you have an outdoor stage with different programs.

As architectural styles were transitioning, this church was built in classic empire style. Started in 1807, it was completed only in 1824. Initially sporting a very tall belltower, it was later reduced to a shorter, but sturdier tower at the request of the congregation. Since the bell was requisitioned by the army during WWI., the tower has no bell! The church is home to one of the best, and certainly largest organs in the country. The church is designed with three parallel naves, each with a separate entrance. The main (middle) nave leads to the altar. A large clock decorates the belltower and rings every 15 minutes. Since the main painting behind the altar was stolen around 2000, a bas-relief was placed there in replacement. A number of sculptures of angels can be seen around the church, which is otherwise rather spartan in decor.

This town has a huge and most impressive train station, it served the eastern part of Hungary, where people would travel to areas that are today in Romania and Serbia. The town centre has been renovated with pedestrian walkways. There you will find the Opera house, City hall and a large church.
