What a fabulous place , so much to see and do.
The highlights for us were The Dragon Bridge, Three Bridges , Plecnik House, Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, Preseren Square and so many more.
We strolled through the shops and cafes on both sides of the river and spent 2 full days out of our 7 exploring the Old Town.
Definitely one of the best places we have visited in a long time.
Everywhere is easy to get to by foot , all on the flat but Taxis are ridiculously cheap.
Everyone we met was so friendly and spoke perfect English , well worth a return visit at some point. Put it on your bucket list.

The three bridges are literally that, three foot bridges in the middle of Ljubljana old town that are next to each other. These bridges also have both free male and female WC (toilets) under them, for your information.
The bridges offer great views along the river, into the main square and have many bars, restaurants and cafes around them. A tourist hot spot.

This square is located right near the heart of downtown/old Ljubljana. It is named after France Preseren, who was a Slovenian poet, and there's a statue of him there on the square. The square and statue seem to be somewhat of a meeting point, both for locals and for tourists (our walking tour of the city started there). It's fairly scenic, with the Triple Bridge crossing the Ljublanica Bridge to the old town itself, as well as the big pink Franciscan Church. There isn't necessarily a lot to do here, but it makes for a good meeting point and people watching, as well as some photo opportunities.

Well worth spending a few hours walking or running in the park. The Museum is really interesting and well worth a visit. You can easily walk there from Ljublana bus station

This is not a “wow” cathedral when in Europe compared to so many others. It is one you should still visit when in town. A quick stop that will not cost a lot and is still very pretty inside. It’s much more simple when compared to so many other ornate options but yet not so much so as to be uninteresting. Detailed frescoes are painted on the ceiling, with gold trim and a designed organ. Also check out some of the most unique doors we've seen on a cathedral

Located on the edge of the city centre, it's easy to walk to and interesting to find how many different dragons you can see as you walk over the bridge

We took a boat ride on the river that was included as part of the Ljubljana Card that we purchased. The river is more like a canal, crossed by multiple bridges that lead to and from the city's Old Town. It isn't especially picturesque in itself, although some of the bridges are.

The boat ride lasted about 45 minutes, first heading south/west a bit past the Cobbler's Bridge, then returning back the other way a bit farther than the Dragon Bridge, before letting us off at our starting point, near the Ribja Bridge.

The canal ride was calm and fairly restful, and we did see some swans and cygnets, as well as multiple kayakers on the river. It was a good chance to relax and enjoy some of the sights, although not especially exciting.

For me this area and location is best at night. Being by the river with the light makes for a great area to walk around in a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Many nice restaurants and bars around with by hotel being close by did eat out this area often.

Plan your visit around lunch or dinner and enjoy the zone.

We loved the concept of the open kitchen, having that many charming little food stands to choose from was fun. There is a ton of food options to choose from between the food stands, including vegan and gluten free, which is always a plus in my book. The food we had tasted great and the portion size was okay, but it ceratinly was not budget friendly. We paid around 32€ for two meals and one dessert. While the food was served super fast, the wait time for the dessert was 25min (not the employee's fault, since the girl at the pancake stand only had one waffle iron to work with). I've seen some tasty looking desserts, but decided against trying them since the prices were astronomical (1.6€ for a single small chocolate bonbon, macarons at 2€+ a piece).

Funky graffiti and street art district near the city center. Interesting collection of styles and types of art. East walk from the center of Ljubljana. Some might see it as a little sketchy, but we enjoyed it.

You will certainly see this church if you visit Ljubljana. It's right on the fairly central Preseren Square, and a bright pink color that's visible from multiple places around the city. We enjoyed taking pictures of it as a landmark. We also took the opportunity to step inside (free to enter) for a few minutes. The interior was closed when we were first in the area (around 2:30 PM on a Saturday), with a small sign indicating hours. Since we were on the square again a couple hours later, it had reopened, so we took a look around. There are impressive frescoes on its ceiling and neat architectural details to look at and appreciate, so it was well worth the 5 minutes or so it took to enter and stroll around a little inside.

The market was very quiet when visited. It wasn't very full of vendors as it was still winter.
There were a few clothing stalls and mostly fruit and veg vendors.
The produce was lovely and fresh and the raspberries were bought to eat were amazingly tasty.
I would like to see it full and bustling in the peak period with lots of vendors and more visitors.
It was a nice little market.

The square is on the Ljubljanica canal. It is a nice open square that normally has a market running on it.
The market the day we went wasn't packed or full of vendors as it still wasn't peak tourist season. We visited in March 2023.
There was mostly fruit and veg vendors with a few clothing stalls as well.
We bought some raspberries and they were absolutely bursting with flavor and freshness.
Its a nice square and would be good to see it at its height in peak season.

This church was built in the 1930 in the architectural style of Serbo-Byzantine Revival. Much of the exterior is painted in a cream, but the most prominent features are the five domes topped with golden crosses.

Inside, the church is decorated in the Byzantine fashion as is typical for Orthodox churches. There are wall to wall frescoes painted by the Serbian painters Dragomir Jašović, Miša Mladenović, and Danica Mladenovič. Most of the paintings are of saints in the Byzantine style. All of which are outstanding.

The two side chapels seem to emphasise christian saints with military backgrounds. There’s 10 soldiers painted in total, 5 in each chapel wall. The high altar is again typical of Orthodox churches, with a lavishly decorated iconostasis. The dome is painted with Jesus, looking down on his flock from heaven.

The square was very quiet when we visited in early March 2023. It was surrounded by lovely architecture and had a fountain that has restoration going on right behindit. It was in the center of the old town. There was plenty of places to have coffee and meals and the there was plenty of shops around as well. Not the worst old square we've been to.
