- David NBrisbane, Australia1,993 contributionsWe crossed this bridge numerous times during our stay in Ljubljana. The best time to enjoy the bridge and associated scenery is on an early morning stroll before your groups arrive. You can truly capture the beauty of this bridgeWritten September 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David NBrisbane, Australia1,993 contributionsThe dragon bridge proudly displays the dragon statues that endeavour to capture the heart and story of the city. It is a lovely old bridge worth seeingWritten September 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia5,862 contributionsThis bridge was redesigned with heavier hand rails with strong wire due it being specifically designed to hang love locks on it without damaging the structure. I am not a fan of love locks especially when they put them through the lovely bronze statues adoring the rails. I don't understand the need for it.
However, the bridge is not really anything special. It is centrally located in Ljubljana over the canal. It has 3 grizzly looking bronze statues on and around it.
We were lucky enough to catch the Ljubljana dragons promoting love week. It was a bit of fun to get our pictures taken with them.
You can also see the castle from on the bridge and is also a way to the central market.Written September 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is one of the oldest bridges in Ljubljana and dates back to at least the 13th century. The bridge has been reconstructed numerous occasions throughout long history due to floods or fires.
The current bridge was conceived by PleÄŤnik as a platform connecting the two parts of the city.
The bridge was built in 1931 of concrete and decorated with a stone balustrade, on which twelve columns stand on both sides of the bridge, six on each side. The bridge is supported in the middle by a concrete corbel, at the ends of which, on both sides of the bridge, there are two columns with lamps on top.
From the bridge you can enjoy beautiful views of the river and the embankment.Written June 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK186,766 contributionsThis bridge is the first and only preserved cast iron bridge in Slovenia. The bridge is a single span arch bridge with a 33 metre span. The criss-crossed supporting trusses are exposed and form pretty geometric patterns. The bridge probably has more significance for the locals than others. Especially as cast iron bridges are not unusual in the UK. Other than that, there’s no real reason to go out of the way to see it.Written April 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JnVSydneyGreater Sydney, Australia23,371 contributionsThe busiest traffic bridge of all the bridges that crosses the Ljubljanica River, never a dull moment, however, still a nice part of old town worth a visit.Written April 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JnVSydneyGreater Sydney, Australia23,371 contributionsThis glass bridge is one of many pedestrianised bridges that crosses the river, this one links congress square with the trendy side of the river, we love its modern designWritten April 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - pinguin89Antarctica1,634 contributionsAs its name implies, historically this bridge's sole purpose was carrying water pipeline between fresh water sources near Brest and customers in Ljubljana, and it was inaccessible to mere mortals. Very recently the bridge over the Ljubljanica river has been "upgraded" into a "footbridge" for cyclists (and officially also for pedestrians but it's rather useless to them) and became another gateway to enter and explore the fascinating Ljubljana Marsh.
From both sides it's accessible via pretty good gravel paths. The southern access path is short and the bridge can even be seen from the main road in Črna vas. From north, it's most conveniently accessible from a branch off the Cesta v Gorice road. So typical #onlyinslovenia, this branch is currently completely unmarked (OpenStreetMap is your friend) and what's more, traffic signs even prohibit access to all vehicles, incl. bikes (but hey, this is Slovenia and nobody pays too much attention to such "unimportant details"). The northern side can also be accessed by east - west rut road from the Rakova Jelša Park, even some rest areas with abstract sculptures have been arranged along this path. Unfortunately, as of July 2024, this rut road is in a really terrible condition, suitable only for off-road mountain bikes.
The bridge's ground surface consists of rather thin wooden slats and TBH, I can hardly imagine them carrying an over obese westerner, possibly riding a heavy e-bike. At both sides of the bridge, there are plenty of bike stands, one access ramp also contains stair like benches. But really, why would anyone actually want to sit here, pretty far from civilization?
On a positive side, if already using the bridge, why not stop for a moment or two and admire the Ljubljanica river in the beautiful natural environment, certainly more appealing than the same river later, forced into a 100% unnatural deep concrete canal within downtown Ljubljana.Written July 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
