Stunning in good light, fun, lots of good restaurants & cafés, and wonderful museums. This is the place to stay and you cannot miss it. Don't be swayed by critics saying "oh, it's all been rebuilt..." While that's true, so has most of Europe and Asia at some point in history through fires, floods and the ravages of many wars over many centuries. Warsaw is no different. What, some church that was destroyed by war then fire in the 17th century and rebuilt then is somehow more "authentic" than another church that was rebuilt only 75 years ago and restored according to 16th Century plans and centuries of pictures and paintings? This is a wonderful place both visually and viscerally. Do not overlook the Warsaw Museum in the Market Square!

Not only is the place beautiful, it also has a rich history. The guide I had the possibility to visit with talked us through all the royal gossip and fun facts, so my walk was taken to a whole other level :)

The Frederic Chopin Monument is a large bronze statue that stands in Warsaw's Lazienki Park. It was designed in 1907 by Wacław Szymanowski and was supposed to be unveiled in 1910 on the centenary of Chopin's birth, however its execution was delayed by controversy about the design and then by the outbreak of WW 1. The statue was finally cast and unveiled in November 1926.
During WW 2 the statue was blown up by the Nazi's. There is an inscription on the monuments pedestal that reads: "The Statue of Fryderyk Chopin, destroyed and plundered by the Germans on 31 May 1940, rebuilt by the Nation. 17 October 1946."

The Barbican is an attractive semi-circular fortified outpost that once formed part of Warsaw's 16th Century defensive fortifications. It was mainly destroyed in WW.2. but was restored in the 1950's using 17th Century engravings. It is a pleasant gateway into and out of the Old Town and is a place were local artists display their artwork to prospective buyers. You can walk a short way along the walls and it is next to these walls you can find the famed 'Little Insurgent' Monument.
I visited in September 2021 and again in October 2022 and enjoyed it on both occasions - Well worth a quick visit.

The Mermaid of Warsaw (Syrenka Warszawska) is a symbol of Warsaw and can be seen on the city's coat of arms as well as in a number of statues and other places. The original bronze zinc statue, dating to 1855, was removed from the Old Town Market in 2008 and repaired before being transferred to the Museum of Warsaw. A copy of the original was made by the Jacek Guzera foundry in Dąbrowie near Kielce and is what now stands in the Marketplace. Worth a look due to the significance of this symbol to the City of Warsaw.

Don't believe you can get inside. Next to the Royal Castle near the old town. I do like the copper topped building from that era, adds colour

A most informative and interesting tour. Our guide Machin (apologies if we spelt it wrongly) brought history to life. Pointing out specific spots and location, accompanied with explanations and sharing of historical facts, showed us facets of the city which we would never have discovered on our own. This was invaluable.

We were a group of three girls. Mike showed us around the Jewish Ghetto and we also got to know some off-road parts of the city. Mike told us a lot about Warsaw, which was really interesting! It was a really nice and funny day with many laughs :) We really recommend doing this, thank you!
