A lovely store, like an art gallery, full of the most atmospheric and interesting art - - as postcards and stickers but also as posters. Beautiful vintage and black and white photographs, as well as the charming and witty graphics of Ryszard Kaja. A great place for tasteful souvenirs.

Many diverse art products in this two story gallery. The owner was wonderful to speak with and clearly they value customer service. They do ship also. Stop in and see if you can find a gem

One of the most beautiful streets in Krakow is Kanonicza ,one of the most striking buildings along this pretty street is Bishop Erazm Ciolek Palace home to the Krakow National Museum.
It's a stunning looking building ,an early 14th century building,it's considered behind Wawel Castle the most beautiful building in Krakow ,the facade is amazing ,so photogenic ,interior is superb ,never visited the museum on this trip to Krakow but I have on previous holidays to this beautiful city ,it's a great building to check out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Ulica Kanonicza .

There is so much to see in Krakow. We found this little gallery just by walking around the Old Town and Main Square. If you like modern art this is the place to see in Krakow although the city is full of museums and galleries. Staff was very very friendly even though I couldn't speak a word in Polish, they were very keen to show us around. We really liked displayed collection full of quirky modern art paintings. Highly recommended.

Was really looking forward to visiting here. Used Google maps to find the place.

Not well signposted at all but if you go it's in the same building as the bookshop. Some good posters but to be honest it's a small shop. Not a gallery. All in all disappointed.

I visited Kamila's little studio during winter looking for a perfect Christmas present for myself and left with two bags full of beautiful handcrafted ceramics for everyone in the family! I am planning to come back in the summer to enjoy tea with the lovley owner in her garden and buy more of her ceramic. Definately worth visiting if you are looking for someting special that will last you lifetime and it's one of a kind!

Karol Estreicher was only 33 years old when the II World War started. Polish professors decided to hide priceless arts in a safe place. Inside the main church - St. Mary's Church at the Main Market there was a gothic altar (XV century) made by Veit Stoss. It was wooden and priceless. During one week before the begining of II WW professors and students worked day and night to put altar into pieces. Those elements, figures were wrapped into paper and put into wooden boxes. There were many boxes. It was Karol Estreicher who took them, put them onto boats and swam about 200 km by Vistula river to hide everything on an old monastery. He was risking his life. He was a here, wasn't he? Unfortunately the altar was found by Nazi soldiers. Karol Estreicher - after the II WW - went to Canada to get the altar back. He is also famous for bringing home (to Krakow) a painting of Leonardo da Vinci Lady With an Ermine robbed by Nazis.
During the war he was making lists of pieces of arts that were robbed, stolen or destroyed. Thanks to him we knew what we had and where it was hidden, what we should have had and what was destroyed completely and lost. His help was priceless after the II WW.
This place was created to commemorate him. He deserves it.
All monuments were created by professor of Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. They show different professors. One sculpture is Polish king - Kazimierz the Great who established nearby university (at that time it was called studium generale). It is based on controversial sketches made by Wyspiański.
Karol Estraicher is this man in front of the entrance.
This place is called Yard Huta Collegium Maius. Collegium Maius is behind this gate, we can see it on the right. Why yard? Because it is a yard between buldings. And why huta? Because centuries ago there used to be a small house (a hut in English, die Hütte in German).

Although located outside of the old town on the appropriately named "long" street, this shop is definitely worth the walk. I love jewelry and had already picked up an amber necklace in Warsaw. Now I was looking for something unusual and was spoiled for choice at Lagos. There was a wide range of stones, sizes (delicate and chunky), and prices. I bought a necklace and bracelet and could easily have added a few more pieces but exercised a bit of restraint in the end. The clerk was very helpful and spoke decent English. If you want a souvenir different from everyone else, visit Lagos Gallery.

I strongly recommend the gallery. There is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere there, the place has small space, but manages to have temporary exhibits. The collection and choice of posters is immense. You will find there theatre&movie pieces and a wide variety of Polish posters. You can buy a reproduction there, available in three sizes (if I remember correctly), plus everything is traveller-friendly packed. Worth visiting, especially before a gift season! The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable.

The biggest choice of Polish art I have ever seen in Poland, mostly sculptures but also paintings. The gallery is very big with underground cave in the heart of Krakow and worth a visit. Every time I go to Krakow I visit it. They can ship to your country at an attractive price. I have received shipping carefully packed and they sell also from website.

Has anyone done both tours before?
Do you think the former is worth doing?

I have done the tour with a guide - so i guess techncially i have gone on the "General tour 3.5h" or something similar, but i am only at Auschwitz 1 for 1.5h, and then we rushed to Auschwitz 2-Birkenau for 1h. i recently went on a organized tour from Krakow bc i couldnt secure guided tour ticket at the last minute from the website. but i think my guide may a person in training (?) cos he was guiding us with an Auschwitz educator standing beside him all the time. I still couldnt figure out whether he is a new guide in training within Auschwitz, or he needs to be chaperoned bc he is a guide hired from the 'outside' (ie not someone hired by the Aushcwitz site). I am inclined to believe it is the latter, but not sure, so would appreciate anyone with better insights. So this means there could be 2 diff guides - one is a tour agency guide from the outside, and another is a Auschwitz educator guide?
Answer: for future readers - I did the 6 hour tour and it is a better pace, smaller group and you visit a few more places in the camps. Our guide was very good. Worthwhile if you have more than a passing interest in the history. We were at Auschwitz for 3 hours and birkenau for 2.25 hours. Crowds were smaller that day so we didn’t have to stop to wait for other groups. I then returned to Auschwitz around 4pm to walk through on my own and to visit some of the country specific exhibits - Hungary’s exhibit is especially good. In order to return to camp 1, I purchased free tickets ahead of time since you have to renter the queue.

Tour vs self guided - 100% go on a tour. The guides paint a more complete picture than you will get from a guidebook. You can arrive early if you want to see birkenau before it gets crowded and walk on your own. No ticket is required to visit birkenau.

Auschwitz vs birkenau - you want to see both. Auschwitz is more intact and has almost all of the exhibits. The exhibits of luggage, eyeglasses, shoes, and human hair is overwhelming. Birkenau is 25x the size of Auschwitz camp 1. Many buildings were destroyed but you can get a better feel for the scale of the genocide. Even with most buildings destroyed you get a chill realizing how people were sorted and put to death. Many times within hours of arrival.

Krakow ghetto - to round out your experience walk through the ghetto and Jewish quarter. Visit the synagogues. Realize the size of the Jewish community that thrived in this area and then 90% of them were killed.

Last - learn about the history that led up to the holocaust. Hitler did not rise up in a vacuum. There were 20 years of anti-semitism that occurred before the death camps. The nazis were very good at isolating Jews, cutting them off from day to day community and business involvement and then eventually shipped them off to forced labor and death. Awareness of that history will help prevent this from ever happening again.
