What travelers are saying
- Sylvie BKrakow, Poland8 contributionsI visited this grand place in the summer 2021. A wonderful historic temple, great altars and the main painting of Virgin Mary. Despite sunny hot weather I managed to see almost everything there and took a bunch of precious photos in and out (except for the small museum as it was prohibited...).Written March 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Andrew GMeadville, PA6 contributionsBeing Catholic. This is the second time there. Wonderful experience. Moving. The unveil the icon at certain times and there is a mass going on all day.Written October 11, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- RonSavannah, GA547 contributionsPilgrimages to this sanctuary are Polish tradition dating back centuries. You will appreciate beauty and importance of it more if you are catholic and of Polish ancestry, but any visitor will be affected by its holy aura. Make sure you come when the holy madonna painting is uncovered. You can find information on their website.Written May 22, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tom P J56 contributionsThe world famous Black Madonna is located in the Pauline Monastery in Czestochowa. In the Chapel of the Virgin, the sacred icon is kept for veneration. This is considered the most sacred place in Poland. The icon is magnificent. During the last century, it was vandalized and slashed with a knife. When it was restored, a scar was painted as a reminder of where the art work was slashed. We visited on a Sunday and the crowds were enormous; there to attend Mass.Written October 5, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- _Matea_2411Groningen, The Netherlands267 contributionsWe have really enjoyed this museum, where you truly experience the life of a miner along with hearing a great audio either in polish or english. You will learn about various stuff about mining, different pumps used in different era (for pumping the water out of mines), different lighting systems, different masks used, diffrent technics of buidling arches in the tunnels. As well you ll learn about hierarcyhy in the mine - from workers to engineers and directors all had different outfits. All the exponents have been donated by the previous workers and I find it an amazing exhibition, our 2 year old daughter enjoyed it as well.
The only issue - we went to visit it during the opening hours, it was snowing and somehow the lady in charge of opening the place forgot to do so, so we had to go to the bigger museum 100 m from it to ask so they open for us (never happened to us before but hey its an adventure in itself;)))Written January 22, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - OlaiKarol GSzczecin, Poland22 contributionsUnique match boxes, unique manufacturing, very interesting people and 'lost' part of the town. - Ken EPhoenix, AZ930 contributionsHere in Poland for the holidays. Love Europe this time of year. I have never heard of this artist, but found his work interesting. A lot of skulls and bones, but that's ok. Interesting mix. We rode the train from Warsaw that day, to and from. Made for a nice day.Written December 27, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Piotr S20 contributionsThis place is the main street of Czestochowa. Aleje (Avenues) were designed in 1826 when the city has experienced big industrial development . Many historical tenements, central walking passage, monuments, tourists/pilgrims, restaurants, coffees are close to Jasna Gora Monastery in the city centre of Czestochowa. If you going to visit Jasna Góra sanctuary you have to remember about walking by this representative street. This avenue is connected by buses and trams with other parts of Czestochowa. Two cinemas, art galleries, museums are there too. You can catch the bus to the ruins of the Olsztyn castle very close to Aleje NMP (Piłsudskiego Street/Railway station). I can recommended to see Aleje NMP avenue for example at 13-14, 25 August (if you want to see many pilgrims from other parts of Poland).
