It is a truly wonderful museum of a truly dark period of world history. The museum has a different feel of it compared to others on the matter and is very respectful and tastefully curated.

The different rooms cover the entire war, from its roots in the aftermath of WW1, through the rise of Facism and Socialism, to the swapping of allegiances and the events that came after; war crime trials, rebuilding and repatriation.

I would advise going early (it doesn't open till 10 am mostly, though), we spent so long looking at everything they closed and had to ask us to leave!

Despite the good reviews I was slightly sceptical about this museum. Having visited now I think it was very interesting and well put together.

We got the 1 and a half hour audio guide and probably spend around 2 and a half hours in the museum. We could definitely have spent longer if we had the time. I would definitely recommend the audio guide - there is also the option for a longer audio guide tour if 1 and a half hours is too short.

I was determined to get the view from the tower, my wife was a little dubious about the climb......turned out it wasn't nearly as demanding a climb as was anticipated.
The old town deserves to be seen from above and gives you a different perspective..ideal for a photographer.

This historic place you cannot miss as it stands in the middle of the main Dluga street, right behind the Neptune fountain.
Entry fee is around 5 Euros, little bit overpriced for what it offers, but still interesting.
The house used to be the meeting place of aristocracy and rich merchants who formed brotherhoods here depending on their origin and business. Each of the brotherhood had its space beneath the Hall arcades, which they decorated with paintings, sculptures and other pieces of art (the tallest 11m ceramic tiles stove being the most interesting one).
Apart from that, it served as a reception hall for celebrations and feasts, as well a courthouse and the seat of Corn Exchange. You need around half an hour to visit.

Interesting small museum housed in a gorgeous former monastery. As other have mentioned, this is a relatively small collection but the beautiful building alone makes it worth the trip. The museum did a nice job of providing descriptions in English to help get a sense of why some of these pieces are special to Gdansk.

I especially enjoyed the room with ceramics and the room with various medieval alter pieces.

It's a little off the beaten path of the old town, but definitely worth the trip if you're interested in art.

This is a small but well thought-out museum that shares space with the polish post office today. The museum tells the important story of how Polish postal workers at this very building put up stern resistance against the fascist invader, for hours, in the first opening days of the invasion.

There is some brief context to how limited training was given to postal workers so that they could be called upon as reserves. This was to help resist any attack as they could relay important information to key areas via various different communication techniques and methods. It gives the account of how, at this post office, the workers resisted numerous attacks until the eventual surrender and storming of the building by the Germans (albeit after numerous set backs). It was one of the few places in the city to hold out against the invader and became an important site since. It also holds no punches in explaining what happened to the survivors either.

There are a couple of objects, and information panels with text in polish and English. Do not expect much by way of interactives, as again, this museum is quite small. Staff were friendly, and one day each week entrance is free (I was lucky as I didn't check beforehand but it was free on the Monday I visited). In total, I think I spent about 45 minutes looking round. There was also a room which talked about the growth of sporting clubs post-war and how postal workers made up an important part of this.

Stick with it - the first few rooms are big and grand with very minimal information. It gets better as you go through the house. Lots of information boards at the end which I think would have been better placed in the room that had been reconstructed. It was informative though.
    Free entrance on Monday

The Maritime Culture Center is a branch of the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk, it is a maritime education institution , ships are their passion. The permanent exhibition at the Culture Center "Boats of the Nations" contains examples of small boats from around the world. A piece of history for adults, many attractions for the youngest, both will certainly not be bored. A great place to learn about work at sea, fun for children at an interactive exhibition. Very interesting exhibition on the second floor. The resort enjoys considerable interest among residents and tourists . I recommend especially with children.

The building houses the Ethnographic Museum. On the ground floor exhibition on fisheries. On the floors of the daily life of the inhabitants of the region. Among other things, reconstructed rural cottage. Periodic exhibitions are organized on a very different appeal. The garden contemporary folk wooden chapels. During the tourist season stalls with regional products.
