Charles Bridge in Prague is an artistic and cultural gateway of the city that offers much more than just a picturesque stroll. Connecting the Old Town (Staré Město) and Lesser Town (Malá Strana), it’s a place where history, art, and the life of the city come together. The intricate Baroque statues along the bridge are worth a closer look - each one tells a story tied to Prague’s rich past.

For a unique experience, visit early in the morning or late in the evening. These quieter times let you fully appreciate the bridge’s atmosphere without the usual crowds. During the day, the bridge comes alive with street musicians, artists, and vendors, adding a vibrant and local touch to the experience.

My first time "witnessing" this Cathedral, I was sitting at home, wide-eyed, watching Rick Steves tour Prague, and subsequently, touring this Cathedral. I knew then I had to see it in person. It's magnificent and easily one of the most beautiful places you have the opportunity to step into. If you can only step into one church in Prague, make it this one. You will not be disappointed. The interior gives a medieval castle vibe, and is full of art. Take your time to absorb it all, no one is chasing you out. This cathedral is in the Gothic architectural style and its exterior is as impressive as its interior.
Lines to get inside can be long, so make sure you buy your entry ticket (just across the way from the entrance) before getting in line. No ticket. No entry.

I really enjoyed Lesser Town, or Mala Strana to give its proper name. It is one of the most romantic of Prague's quarters, a collection of narrow cobblestone streets, baroque churches, green parks of luxurious palaces, and historic architecture dominated by red tile roofs.
Although a settlement appeared on the left bank of Vltava river not long after Prague Castle was founded today the Lesser town is as it became in the 17th and 18th centuries when Baroque came to Prague. Churches, palaces, and houses changed under the baroque decorations, with the wonderful Church of St Nicholas that dominates the Lesser Town as a fine example of this style.

Petrin tower was a fun (not so) way to spend a couple of hours dying as I walked up the hill heading to the tower. Its a shame this time of year the gardens was not in bloom as I can imagine them looking totally different in a few months time. The views from up in the tower are great so don't forget your camera.

I have a tip for anyone visiting.

To the side of the tower there is the mirror maze. A few few quid gets you inside and you can buy a double ticket for the petrin tower. The mirror maze takes around 3 minutes from start to finish if you're an adult. Lots more fun to be had for the kids in here. I'd suggest going here and getting the double ticket as the queue for the tower was long and would have taken at least 30 minutes to buy tickets but we already had the double ticket so bypassed the long queue and headed up the tower without waiting.

If you like baroque churches, go visit this place! Not a big admission fee, beautiful interiors and access to the gallery upstairs. A lovely church to see in Prague!

Yes, the HradÄŤany district is home to Prague Castle, one of the largest enclosed palace complexes in the world and most people come to this district of Prague for that. But you really should plan to explore the rest of the Hradcany district as part of your trip.
The gardens surrounding the castle and the winding streets of Hradčany are great for exploring on foot and there are so many hidden gems, such as the little street Nový Svět with houses from the 17th century. I would start with Hradčanské square which consists of a number of historical houses and palaces, such as The Schwarzenberg Palace, with its National Gallery’s collection of Baroque art and The Archbishops Palace. The Square is connected to the castle courtyard and the western entrance gate to Prague Castleand on the south side there is a terrace with spectacular views of the city.
From Hradčanské Square take the main road and pass Loretto Church and Černínský palác gradually rising to Strahov, and the unmissable Strahov Monastery (good for its architecture but with the advantage of beers from the Monastery Brewery).
Then you can get the 22 Tram back to the Old Town or head downwards into Lesser Town, another excellent area of Prague worth exploring.

The Prague State Opera is a fantastic building Magnificent place and a delicious musical experience.where the traditional meets the modern. With comfortable seats and a touchscreen available for an overview and running text. Super comfortable and practical!
The acoustics were top notch with sensible balanced music and singing voices so you could really enjoy the songs. In particular, it was a pleasure to hear Zuzana Markova sing Violetta, Alejandro Del Angel sing Alfredeo and not least Svatopluk Sem as Giorgio.
The only thing that could be better was the scenography itself, which was extremely spartan.
But all in all a nice experience.

We lucked out as the gardens would have been closed down for the winter come next week.

The large pond / the statues / the peacocks / the aviary/ and the concrete artist wall with all the faces is something to see.

Perhaps the most imposing structure in Prague's Old Town, Tyn is easy to spot, yet tricky to find the entrance for. But that adds to the charm, it's like a secret passage. Tyn stands out, like it's keeping an eye over the Old Town. A Gothic church with plenty of aesthetic character. I found my way inside and was struck by how lovely it is. Definitely take your time admiring the pieces and the atmosphere itself, everything within is worth your consideration. There is no entrance fee, but a small donation is requested, which I always provide. You can also buy post cards with professionally done photos of some aspects of the church. They are inexpensive and during my experience, they relied on the honor system.

Vyšehrad Park is off the beaten path allowing for a nice break to get away from the tourist crowd. There are as many locals as visitors here. Vyšehrad is very meaningful to the Czech nation as it is the legendary location of first settlement in the city that later became Prague. A fortress was constructed here in the 10th century although little remains from that time except for the Romanesque Rotunda of St Martin from the 11th century. The Habsburgs built a military installation here and the Tabor Gate and Leopold gate along the with the city walls can still be seen. However, the park offers photogenic views of the Vltava River and is also the site of the Neo-Gothic Basilica of St Peter and St Paul built between 1887-1903 and the adjacent Vyšehrad Cemetary, which is the National Cemetery and is the final resting place of many famous Czechs. Vyšehrad can be reached by taking the subway here and you can return by tram along the Vltava River after descending the stairs to the Vyton neighborhood. I enjoyed coming here but it is not a must-see sight but certainly a worthwhile activity if you have an extra day and have a couple hours to spare.

Kampa Park is a charming and tranquil spot, perfect for a relaxing break if you have some free time. It’s a lovely place to sit outside and unwind, especially after checking out the yellow penguins and the intriguing Černý baby sculptures.

The quintet and two singers were topnotch and I say this as someone who has subscribed to the Lyric Opera of Chicago since 1971. Dinner was ok. It was what I expected, but service was bad. They totally forgot about our first course until my husband left the table to find someone. We were served as they cleared other people's bowls. The couple at the next table ordered the unlimited wine. They went the entire main course without wine, had to find someone to get wine during dessert and it was a less than generous pour. Go for the music and save your money on drinks.
