The hsitoric Center ofCesky Krumlov is the perfect place to wander and discover something new at every corner. The side streets are narrow, the pavers are uneven and the people friendly at every turn…exactly how someone would image a 1000 year old village. There is so much character and charm throughout the village, it’s easy to get lost in your own thoughts…but not the village itself which is exceptionally small. Definitely a must see if visiting Prague or anywhere in the Czech republic.

This was our first visit to Cesky Krumlov and I don’t think I was prepared for the sheer size and beauty of this castle. The castle is beautiful, both on the outside and on the inside (where we did a 1 hour tour in English). But it’s its commanding presence on the bluffs of the town that really captured my imagination. The walkway from the theater into the palace proper, with their views of the valley and the river below are spectacular. Definitely this is a must see if visiting Prague, or for that matter, any place in the Czech Republic.

We went to Cesky Krumlov for the day with a private guide who actually took us into the town via “the back door”….through the Castle Gardens. What a wonderful way to start our visit. Despite the terrible drought, the gardens were lush, flowering and full of color. The fountains were all blasting away and the breeze through the trees was delightful. When we exited, we obviously walked back through the garden, which offered up a second opportunity to take in their beauty before getting on the road for a drive back to Prague. (Also, there was no parking problems and little to no traffic…brilliant!!). Definitely enjoyed the gardens and would visit them again if the opportunity presented itself.

We started in central Cesky Krumlov and walked uphill to the train station. From there it’s a moderately uphill climb on an asphalt road to the trailhead at the end of the road. Fairly straightforward to follow the green/white markings. At the top you have obstructed views so you have to pay to go up the tower for the best views. About 6 miles to the top. We decided to continue on to Holubov from Klet. Follow the rough trail that goes under the chairlift until you reach an asphalt trail that takes you down into the valley. Continue until you arrive at Holubov and work your way to the train station. There are close by cafes to kill time as you wait for the train. Eventually, board train for trip back to Cesky Krumlov. A perfect day trip!

The latran houses along the banks of the river in Cesky Krumlov are definitely worth a visit. Once factories, mills and houses for upclass nobles, they’re now boutique shops, restaurants and hotels….but they still have kept their overall charm. The streets are cobbled, the river is rushing past and even the old water wheel is turning. Definitely a fun way to enjoy the afternoon after a visit to the castle.

It is right at the entrance of the city unless you come in behind and go straight to the castle from the marketplace. It is well built. You can rent kayaks just down beside the water.

Cute (and free) little museum, showcasing some of the history of the region via its commercial products, more or less. There's actually quite a number of items, and the placards explaining the item collections are written in a few languages (including English). There's also a little gift shop section near the entrance/exit if you want to buy some replicas of old timey things.

When you visit this town be prepared to do plenty of walking. To visit the castle you need to be quite fit as it is a long climb but amazing when you get there.

The beauty of the square is it it is a place you can recharge and rest your legs for a while. Surrounded by beautiful buildings which house restaurants, small shops and cafés you can get some food and drink to provide sustenance.

It is beautifully maintained and provides some great photo opportunities. You can also get tourist information there.

Very interesting museum. It had quite a few wax figures which was nice to see. It was a mix of Czech figures and international ones. I like the part where they showed how people looked like in the old days and drank in the pub or worked in the mines. The wax figues were looked very realistic which spooked me out a few times.
It was a short exhibition though, which we finished looking through very quick.

You can't miss this tower as you can see it clearly due to its colours. The views of the town was great from the top of the tower.

This is a lovely little museum just by the castle steps. An amazing selection of marionettes of various ages. Up in the rafters of an old building it was a little stuffy but well worth the visit
