Step back in time and visit the port of Lakki, constructed mainly in the 20's by the Italians who occuppied the island until 1949. The style of the buildings is unique and is being preserved. Many shops and restaurants, and basic services as well.

Tuesday 16th July and we visited this small old Church on the outskirts of Lakki. We were driving to Xirokampos when we spotted the Church along the roadside, we stopped to visit the Church.

We climbed up the steps to the entrance of this old bare stone Church. Inside the Church the whitewashed walls were adorned with a number of icons and religious images.

We stood for a few moments in the Church and we savored the calmness and peaceful aura. It was rather special as we were the only visitors, a real treat to be able to enjoy this sacred place on our own.

Outside there was some amazing scenery of the mountains and looking out to sea

Transport is required to visit this Church as it is situated in a isolated place.

Tuesday afternoon 16th July and we were sightseeing and exploring in Lakki and it's Port area.

This art deco Church is situated just a short walk from the seafront, in the Port area of Lakki. The shape and design of the Church is very different from the standard Greek Church.

The building was completed in 1939 and was originally called Agios Franciscus which was later renamed Agios Nicholas. The Church was built during the Italian occupation from1912 to 1943.

When we visited the main doors of the Church were open, however, the internal doors were locked so we were unable to enter. However we did look through the gap in the internal doors. The rear of the Church was decorated with religious images, icons and candelabras.

It is a uniquely shaped monument just at the port of Lakki, I didn't know the name of it so I thank user "David D" for adding it and describing it here. :-) I saw it during our one week stay on Leros in September 2019.

If you get a chance to see some event here, you will be pleased. This is "living history". Beautifully restored.
