Very well organized and fun! Even though it’s a long day, all the stops are worth it. The islands are beautiful and the people are very nice.

San Blas is very beautiful, and finally I had a lovely time. However you have to be prepared that things will just happen according to the understanding of local indigenous community, not as on train schedule in Switzerland. You don't know where you will be going and when, you are just told a short while before: now we go to a different island or now we do the tour (possibly not the same island as in tour description and not on the same day). In the final accounting, all islands very beautiful and all tours were fun. So if you can relax and just let things happen, you will have good time. But if you need to be in control of everything and be informed at all times, this may not be for you.
The lodgings and food are rather basic (but I did get my lobster dinner). Think toilet on the other end of the island, or at least over the yard. The facilities were nevertheless impeccably clean.
According to tour description, a drink should have been included with lunch and dinner, but the local providers did not think so – just as well that I had packed plenty of water from the mainland.
The jungle exclusion follows the course of a stream, wading sometimes knee deep, so dress accordingly. I finally had to do it in my trekking shoes, it did them no favours. The river is rocky so barefoot wading is not an option, and the rocks are sometimes slippery – this may not be appropriate for small children or senior citizens.

This tour was an adventure and not for the feint of heart! One third of the trip is through the jungle on deeply rutted, curving, narrow roads. The Toyota 4 wheel drive vehicle was navigated by Adrien who knows the roads well. Be sure to bring your passport as we went through a Panamanian checkpoint as well as upon entry to the Guna indigenous territory. One of the 6 passengers in our vehicle had overstayed his visa prompting a 45 minute delay while this dude explained his documents. The 45 minute boat trip to the islands was pretty bumpy. But once we got there…oh my! Just gorgeous! So glad we went, even though we were certainly wondering on the way there…

Hello I will have to be honest as I write this review about this tour. The people were lovely and made me feel safe which is a top priority for me. The tour started at 5 am with an airport pick up. Unfortunately my guide was a bit
late but there were some logistics that played a part here. Once I got to the car, we were asked to bring a passport which is very normal. There is a border check before you enter the San Blas Islands. The community is very controlled by the Kuna which is actually nice because it allows them to preserve the town and land and their culture which I admire. There is an entrance fee you’ll pay later in the day and there is a stop for breakfast which was awesome (you’ll usually see a ton of tourists at this point). Only 4x4s are allowed because of the road condition. Once you drive for 2 hours an 30 mins you’ll get to the boarding docks. Once here your guide (for the day) will take you in a boat to the first island. I went in the last week of March and the weather was not the best. It poured rain on us. And the boat ride was so scary, I heard this isn’t always the case but you’re in a small motor boat and the waves are rough, you can feel it, people were screaming scared and that’s the truth because I never read about transportation but it’s important to note. There was a rain storm as we left (it lasted 3 minute and we were told was normal ) After a while I couldn’t be scared because there was nothing I could do so I embraced it. Everyone is (literally) in the same boat so when we got off we had a good chat about it but THE WATER IS SO BEAUTIFUL you forget anything that happened. For the price it is ( I bought it on the website for 99$) it is worth it, you get lunch (fresh from village) transportation and 3 islands (2 land masses, and one natural beach in the middle of the ocean which I thought was really cool) my favorite part was the beach in the middle of the ocean. It was insane. You can get scuba googles and go diving. It’s really beautiful. We got back home at 6:30 Pm or 7 anf I scrubbed off. Unfortunately on the islands the toilets weren’t working and were clogged (you can’t put toilet paper in them) and when you get to the mainland (where your driver is waiting), there are showers and running toilets for 25 cents. It was worth it to experience how the Kuna people live and preserve their land but I would probably do Bocas Del Toro or try a larger boat and cleaner bathroom facility. I say this respectfully as I appreciated all their effort and love put into the tourist. The Kuna people are kind to open up their island to us and only drivers who know someone in the community are allowed to be a driver to the island. It is a lovely community and I am happy they have preserved their land. More indigenous communities should be able to organize and preserve culture in this way.

As someone who was solo traveling, I want others people to get the best information as possible so writing this long review.

So grateful to Tao Travel for making this experience possible for us. Because of Covid our initial travel plans were cancelled and we ended up coming to Panama last minute during their busy season. Tao Tours was able to accommodate us, booking our San Blas one night trip with a private cabin only a few days in advance. They were very responsive and easy to communicate with over whatsapp and phone. The trip's fees and breakdown were clearly communicated and things went smoothly. After a long ride on a bumpy road and a boat trip that was also bumpy, we were dropped off on a beautiful beach for an unforgettable experience. While the accommodations are simplistic, anything fancier would detract from the sublime experience of being on an island in the middle of nowhere. You can walk the island's circumference in ten minutes and can fall asleep under the stars listening to the waves. We were picked up the next morning and had an amazing day exploring three other islands and the natural pools with starfish. Throughout, every guide or driver was friendly, communicative and we were well taken off. This is a hard working company with a hard working crew. I am so glad this trip worked out and we got to experience the wonderful San Blas Islands!

This was my second time in San Blas and definitely better than my first one. The first time I stayed on a cabin on an island, and to be honest staying on a boat is a lot more comfortable. The crew was fantastic and food delicious. I'd definitely recommend it

This is such a great experience from Panama City! No need to worry about driving or pick ups. The team takes you door to ocean door! Great communication, delicious lunch, incredible cultural tour of the local community, would do it again!

It was a really good tour! Worth the investment.

    Things to consider:

    - Yes, the road to get to the Port is full of holes (something the government has to improve) and may be a bumpy ride, but is not that bad if you go with someone that knows the road.
    - As indicated, mobile reception is fluctuating and only works with some agencies.
    - Depending on the season you go, you may encounter with several rains. We just went and it rained just once, for about 10 min.
    - There are bathrooms but they aren't as clean as one would wish.
    - There are no garbage cans so please take your trash to the restaurants so the natives can help you with it.
    - There aren't showers where you can clean from the salty water. Just in case you were wondering.
    - The trip demands you to move a lot, not having a lot of time to really sit and relax for hours. So go light, don't carry too much stuff with you.
    - There are some palm trees and some wood benches to sit.
    - It also demands good physical conditions to get in and out of the boat in every island/pool.
    - Take cash with you, at least 50 bucks in small amounts, in case of emergencies. You wont need to use it all unless you wanna buy stuff.

    The positives:
    - The agency organized the tour really good.
    - The people involved were really attentive and kind. They knew their stuff.
    - San Blas Islands (Perro chico and Diablo) are really beautiful, they have the basics to have a good time.
    - We had a great time in the natural pools.
    - You get really good pictures form the trip and meet new people, from all over the world.

    Things to improve:
    - We had a setback in our arrival, cause being Holy Thursday there were more cars than usual so we waited around 1 hour 30 min until reaching the stop to pay the territory fees. the ride to the Port lasted 5 hours in total (From the Novotel hotel to the port).
    - The Tour says Snorkeling included but our guides never told us when we were going to snorkeling nor offered the equipment to use it in the natural pools. Maybe because of the setback, i dont know.
    - Some boats had a ladder to help people get in the boat, i think this would have being great if our boat had it.

In my personal experience, i would have liked to stay more time in each island, so next time ill visit just two or stay in one the whole day. Overall, its a excellent trip if you want to go to the beach and disconnect from your day to day schedule.

    Enjoy!

  • It's best to visit max 3 islands in one day. It's very chill. The natural pool is the best part and the must see

I had not seen such crystal clear waters before. If you love the maritime life and the beach, this is one of the detins that you will love the most in your life. The attention and treatment was good too.
