1 star is generous. Trip from Porto Torres - Genoa with the following problems:
    1. Our night crossing was "brought forward" by 12 hours at 48 hours notice to leave at 9am, luckily I checked my messages since I was on holiday
    2. Customer service was unhelpful/incapable of providing a refund for the cabin which we had booked for the night crossing and no longer needed since we were travelling during the day. The same goes for a refund of the price difference between the night crossing and the day crossing
    3. The departure terminal in Porto Torres is impossible to find, there are no signs and even other ferry operators didn't know where it was
    4. We arrived as requested 2 hours in advance of our depature time, the security guards were rude, unhelpful and unwilling to do their work before they'd had their 5 croissants, 3 cups of coffee and 55 cigarrettes, which resulted in an enormous queue blocking the traffic in Porto Torres and utter confusion amongst all the passengers
    5. Once we had finally passed security we found that our ferry was not there, it would not arrive until 20 minutes after our (rescheduled) depature time, no information was communicted to us by the personnel
    6. The boarding personnel were out of their depth, lost and confused and incapable of organising what is essentially a very simple process, it seemed like it was their first day working there, which it probably was since I can't imagine anyone working for this dreadful company for more than 2 weeks
    7. The ferry was dirty, unhygenic and the toilets were broken
    8. The personnel working on the ship were completely useless
    9. There was absolutely no communication during our voyage regarding arrival time or other useful information, the same goes of course for any kind of apology for the late depature/change of depature time
    10. The ferry arrived in Genoa with 5 hours delay

Travelled overnight on the Mega Express 5 from Toulon to Porto Torres, staying in a 4 berth inside cabin. Loading was disorganised with the usual cramming cars in as close as possible with no concern or respect for people being able to open car doors without banging into other cars etc. I personally didn't like that they stuck stickers on my windscreen to show which line/area we had to wait in, and was really annoyed that when we returned to my car they'd taken it upon themselves to put another advertising sticker on my back window too! Both were promptly removed!
We had some issue with the toilet not flushing, the steward told us as they showed us the room, and we must have had 5 different knocks on the door whilst trying to get changed from staff trying to fix it. In the end we yet left the, to it and went to the bar! Rooms sparsely decorated but everything you need for overnight crossing. Amenities on board were OK, a couples bars including a poolside bar selling frozen cocktails, but seriously understaffed so took forever to get served. The pizzeria was closed, which meant the self-serve cafe or a la carte-restaurant for food. We ate in the self-serve. Food was reasonably priced for on a ferry and decent quality and freshly cooked. As usual the drink prices were extortionate, €15 for a large and small bottle of beer. Set sail on time, and got wake up knock on the door at 5.30am and by 6am we were driving off the ferry-none of P&O tactics of being docked for an hour and pushing their overpriced breakfast and coffees on you.

I love the funicular railways in Genova. This is a cogwheel one taking you on a 10 minute trip up to a small village. It starts behind the Principe station. Look for the large Admiral Bingo sign on a building - the station is just to the right. When you get off at the top continue walking up the hill to the church for a good view over the town. The coaches are the original ones from 1929. TIP - get your ticket before going to the station since you can’t get one there.

We recently made daytime return ferry crossings with Moby between Genoa and Bastia, without a vehicle. We booked reclining seats for the outward trip, but they proved to be in a very unattractive, poorly ventilated section of the ship, so we did not use them. We had a day cabin for the return trip to Genoa which is worth the cost. Overall everything was pretty satisfactory, but with one big reservation.

Embarkation at Genoa and embarkation and disembarkation at Bastia was well managed for pedestrian passengers. The staff ensured safe passage across traffic lanes, made sure that we knew where to go, assisted us with luggage without even being asked, and the whole process was efficient.

Disembarkation at Genoa was unprofessional. After the ship docked pedestrian passengers were not allowed to leave until the vehicles had disembarked. There was no explanation, and no satisfactory announcement as to where we should go or what we should do. When we asked crew members how to get off the answer was “wait” “later”. We were held for almost a half an hour after the ship docked, before we were able to leave. We had to find our own way out without any assistance from the crew.

On disembarking the staff ignored us immediately we stepped off the ship, and there was no direction or guidance as to where we should go. Following a Uscita sign led us into a deserted, unstaffed section of a building, to a large glass door leading to the outside, which was locked. We simply had to find our own way out by a different route.

Disembarkation at Genoa was in complete contrast to embarkation there, and embarkation and disembarkation at Bastia. We thought that it was very poor after a long sea crossing. Both disembarkation from the ship and arrangements for pedestrian passengers to pass from the quay to leave the terminal were inefficient, completely lacking in organisation, and indicative of bad management and an inconsiderate attitude.

I was pleasantly surprised that the trains are super clean and well maintained despite the throngs of passengers jumping in/out of the trains. Since we followed a tour group, we didn't have to purchase tickets but I do see people queuing up to buy them before boarding.

OK, first off, let's talk about La Metropolitana di Genova. If you are going to or from Certosa (Brin station) it's your best option. It's about 15 minutes to Piazza Principe, and I haven't yet had to wait more than 10 minutes for a train.

Now let's move on to the embarrassing "reviews" written by people who don't know how to ride a train in Italia. First, you need a ticket. Unless it's a special kind of daily or monthly pass, it's a piece of paper or cardboard. For the Trenitalia lines between cities, you get a ticket from Point A to Point B that you can use (mostly) any time. But it's just a piece of paper until you "convalidare", stamp it in the station. That ticket is then good for 4 hours thereafter. If you miss a connection or get off somewhere to look around another town, and you take more than 4 hours, your ticket expires.

Great. Now, in most cities in the world and Italia, you need a ticket to ride the bus or metro. In Italia, these can come from all kinds of places, mostly tobacconists and newsstands. At Piazza Principe there's a little newsstand with a green roof where a nice guy will sell you a ticket. There are 100 minute tickets (a single ride with a transfer, say), or 24 hour tickets or "settimanale" tickets good from Monday to Sunday (no matter when they start).

NONE OF THEM ARE VALID UNLESS YOU VALIDATE THEM WITH A TIME STAMP. If your ticket has the word "convalidare" on the front, it needs to be validated somehow. Try askung "Dove si puo convalidare" if you can't figure it out. IF YOUR TICKET ISN'T VALIDATED IT ISN'T A TICKET.

And if you exceed the valid period, you have no ticket. I punched my weekly ticket today, Monday. That means when Sunday ends the ticket does too, whether I'm in bed or still on the train.

Now, as of this writing, the metrò is free (gratis) from 10A-4P and 8P-10P. It is not free for 24 hours. So if you stumble through the entry and exit at 3:50 PM and out at 4:10, YOU HAVE NO TICKET. Your "free pass" is only good until 4P or 10P. If you enter the metrò at 9:59P with a paper ticket in your pocket, you have a piece of paper in your pocket. If you can't figure this out or have 3 kids and 5 suitcases with you, maybe you should call a taxi.

None of this is secret. Google "Genova AMT" and read. It's Italian, not cuneiform. Use your dictionary or Google translate and figure it out, or ask someone.

And if you are too important (or prejudiced) to answer to "sweaty Italians" who are paid to keep a train system running under a city of half a million people esablished in 500 BCE and not to spoon feed you as you tromp past them to get to Cinque Terre to post on Instagram, you aren't going to like Genova anyway.

Unlike other towns in CInque Terre, this station is not a stone's throw from the village. In fact, you have to trek up a staircase to reach the village. The trains come relatively frequently but are often delayed.

I would like to show you how the services of AMT behave to someone who is new at the city, don’t speak italian.

On the 6th of june i had to take the train from Brignole. On my way to the train station, I saw one bus that was going to my destination so i took it from the stop in via serra ("Giacomo E Filippo/ Corvetto -0437”) just 1 stop from Brignole.

I took the ticket while I was entering the bus. 10 seconds later 2 people from AMT that were checking the tickets (without wearing their masks) came to me and asked me to show them the ticket. I did provide it and then they started saying something in italian which I am not able to speak. I told them many times that I can't understand them. I was showing them the ticket and they keep talking to me (always without a mask) . Then I understood that they were telling me that I didn't buy the ticket but I was showing it to them. It was a crazy situation . Never in my life i went to a bus without a ticket.

Few minutes later we went out to the final destination and 2 other people came to me(always without a mask). Of course no one was able to say not even a word in english. I was trying to explain to them that I bought the ticket while I entered the bus but of course the couldn’t understand me.

After a while I felt very upset with the situation. I couldn't do anything and I had no one to help. They were keep saying that they will bring me to the police. I was about to cry. I did nothing. After a while They convinced me to pay and I said ok lets pay. I didn’t want to lose my joy for someone who was just rude to me.. I was about to pay by card and then they told me (always without a mask and in italian) that they didn’t have a POS so I had to go the other day in the morning at their offices to pay.

On my way back home i saw that the fine instead of 40 euros it was 60 euros that no one told me the reason why?

Since i am young with not so much incomes i was waiting few days like 3-4 to get my salary so i could go to pay. When I went to pay I found out that the fine was 110?!?!?!

Now I am back to Greece now , talking with so many lawyers about what I can do. I really don;t want to pay a fine that i never understood why i had it. How do you want to become a successful company by having rude, racists and not so friendly employers. How do you want your city to become international, to attract people from abroad to visit if you are giving a fine to people just because they don’t speak italian? Shame on the company that adopts these kinds of principals.

We had a 1 Hour boattrip with Andrea. The boat is so nice and traditional. He gave us a great view on the coast and showed us santa Margarita. He also tell us a lot about the history and some of the popular villas on the cliffs.

Andrea is a great host and Skipper. He gave us a cozy and romantic feeling. Portofino is of course a special place, but to see the City from the water is just magical.

We had a great Trip and would recomend everyone to join Andrea.

We had a fabulous day with Valerio as our driver and guide. He picked us up from the cruise terminal with good instructions of how to find him and had our name on a tablet which was a great start. We hopped into his nearly new van and asked for him to determine where to show us as long as we got to see and go inside some churches/cathedrals. He did not disappoint and not only drove us around but also got out and walked with us and showed us things we would never have know if he wasn’t with us. We felt comfortable and safe with him and was so glad he went with us every step of the way. For lunch, he recommended a little place and we had delicious pasta. We were originally going to only have a half day tour but he said was ok to extend so we ended up 9:00am-3:00pm and was packed full of a wonderful day. His responses to my inquiries by email were timely and much appreciated. We will absolutely recommend Valerio at Gexi Taxi to anyone visiting Genoa!
