- SummerasalifestyleMalibu, CA2,791 contributionsI walked from my hotel so another mile each way. Parking for only 4 cars so go ahead and walk from your hotel… the hike isn’t that long.
Slippery trail so proper footwear.
Good elevation changes—-quite steep from city to trailhead. Continues steep for first 15 minutes or so. Friaries meeting place—ya just gotta see it. No views cause of the clouds and drizzle—saw a lil pond further so I’m walking to that too! Pond is empty but very loving messages on the dry ground—yep, ya gotta hike to it.
Go early, by 10ish, lotsa people.Written April 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One of the best views I have ever seen from the top. I started from Nomads and it took me roughly 3.5 hours including breaks to get to the top, however my moving time was about 2 hours to the top. It gets steep once you get to the saddle and turn left but it is worth it. A must do for hikers and casuals in QueenstownWritten April 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DanitaKTMckinnon, Australia33 contributionsOur family of four (children 14 & 18) hired electric bikes from Torpedo7 in Queenstown. We had not used electric bikes previously but needed the boost for the 70km+ round trip to Arrowtown. It was awesome! Although quite challenging at times given the undulations. The track is first class. Credit to the council for supporting outdoor activities.
Lots of amazing scenes along the way- rivers, mountains, lovely houses, views across the lake and glorious autumn leaves. Would highly recommend despite the sore body today!! All worth it!
A call out to Torpedo7 who were awesome in supporting us, including a flat tyre. They went above and beyond. Their bikes were in great condition.Written April 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My husband and I could walk side by side through most of it. I agree with the general sentiment to walk in clockwise direction but beware that the climb from Sam Summer's Hut is quite steep. There were great views, the beech forest was lovely, the birds sung and it was a good physical workout. It says 2-3 hours but we walked steadily, stopping to look at the tunnel and read about the hut as well as admire Lake Dispute and we completed it in 1 hr 45 mins.Written July 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tim A1 contributionA fantastic family hike over two nights / three days. Used Easy Hike to relocate our car from The Divide to the Greenstone car park. Easy Hike provided excellent service and advice at a reasonable cost.Written January 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SummerasalifestyleMalibu, CA2,791 contributionsConstruction at trailhead and construction at the top by luge and gondolas. make trailhead and end point a challenge. But the trail is a good with good elevation change. Proper footwear. Not for families.Written April 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OldjackGreater Melbourne, Australia27,626 contributionsSunshine Bay is the first small beach after leaving Queenstown on the Glenorchy Road and it is a pretty spot, good views and a good walk along the edge of the lake.Written March 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Burdett PSayre, PA263 contributionsThis short hike provided some beautiful views of Queenstown and the lake. It has some ascents, but overall did not strike us as too taxing.Written November 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BNorthwoodAuckland Central, New Zealand31 contributionsOur hike was 15k. The first half or so was straightforward on a farm road. Steady climb then downhill to McConnochies Stream. Some steep pitches followed, then the track to Arthurs Point which was off the farm round and rough in places. One washout that was got through OK. Our way was best - the climbs from Arthurs Point would have been hard, We walked for just over four hours with five in total allowing for stops. An excellent walk, and an accessible way of seeing backcountry. If you walk from Moke Lake you need to either park a car there and collect it later or arrange a shuttle - which is what we did. And make sure you have transport at the end! We got an Uber rather than wait for the bus.Written April 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 18Anna10Sheffield, UK13 contributionsThis is a great walk where, for very little effort, you gain height and have brilliant views back over Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains. Once past the beautiful Lake Dispute and a brief easy climb, it takes you into a valley that leads you to Lake Moke and a vast amphitheatre of mountains around you. It took us two hours to get to the southern edge of Lake Moke. I don’t really like “there and back” walks but this was good because of the stunning views you get in both directions. Parking is on the left of the Glenorchy Road in a little lay-by.Written March 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Samantha BNorth Shore, New Zealand99 contributionsCool new development that has a 25km trail network for walkers and cyclists. Beautiful, quiet place to admire The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.
We did the Jack’s Point Loop, which is described as a “hard” walk. There is a fair bit of uphill and some uneven sections of track but it’s generally well-graded. It took us 1.5 hours (it’s estimated to take 2.5 hours). The signage was not always clear and the description of the start point found on the website was a bit confusing - we almost started walking through the golf course! Don’t park by the Clubhouse - keep driving to the small carpark to reach the beginning of the track. Maybe once the development is finished the signage will be better.Written August 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. From the Skippers Lookout it is a short walk of about 800 metres along Skippers Road to the start of Atleys Track. Rental cars aren't allowed past the Lookout.
Atleys Track is a much longer walk and the first part of that walk is to Mt Dewar. To walk to Mt Dewar peak takes about one hour each way. We were there in September 2019 and there was snow at the Peak. There are various aerial installations at the Peak which are excellent landmarks. Department of Conservation can provide more information about this walk.
There are spectacular views to Coronet Peak, the surrounding mountains, the valley and Queenstown. We highly recommend this hike. It was only from visiting DOC that we found out about this hike. Thank you DOC, Queenstown.Written September 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
