The 50 min drive from Twizel to the Mt Cook village was the highlight of our trip, the scenery is beautiful, snow capped mountains all around, the huge lake, the streams and the road into the village is just amazing.

Lake Taupo is the largest lake on the Northern island and provides great opportunities for outdoorsy activities: boating, sailing, fishing, water skiing, swimming, etc.
We could see majestic Mt Ruophehu across the lake, enjoyed a cruise to the Maori carvings, attempted trout fishing, swam in the refreshing crystal clean waters, and soaked in the serenity

Lake Rotoiti Saint Arnaud
The Eel fishes, swimming around the bridge lazily, the snow peaked mountains, the windy and chilly weather all adds glamour, a romantic and mesmerising effect on the mind, soul and body.
I am an active person, so I take advantage of the amazing walks, mountains, and of course, the lake itself for swimming, boating, rowing, paddle-boarding etc.

Great for kayaks, little sail boats, fishing, having a bbq, walking the tracks - plenty to do and great for a couple of hours or a couple of weeks.
Moke Lake Queenstown
It seems like you can start the trail in two different areas: by the campsite (large parking area), or at an area a bit before the campsite (small 4-5 vehicle parking area by the trail boardwalk).
The two of us did the walk around the lake and it took us a little over 3 hours with stops for photos and videos etc. Unfortunately for one part of the complete walk, you must walk on the gravel road for about 1km.

Tama Lakes Whakapapa
Be prepared for this hike, you still need to pack survival items like energy bars, wet weather gear and most importantly windproof gear (be prepared for the wind chill!).
Gorgeous views of both Ngaurahoe and Ruapehu the entire time, even in the clouds and rain that we got for the first two-thirds of the trip, and the lakes themselves are gorgeous.
Blue Lakes and Tasman Glacier walks Aoraki Mount Cook National Park (Te Wahipounamu)
It's a 20 minute hike up some steps (tiring but do-able) to see a breathtaking view of the mountains, covered in snow and the blue lake beneath with the last of the icebergs melting away.
Take 30/40 mins for walking steps and be surprised by a beautiful bright blue lake with ice rocks and the Tasman glacier.
