Jacob's Ladder is a reference to an Old Testament story. The ladder goes from Mounts Bay Road to Cliff Street. It's a bit of a climb, not beyond any moderately fit person, and the view from the top over the Swan River is spectacular.

I have been walking this trail for over a year now in all seasons. The City of Joondalup, City of Wanneroo, the Parks Department and Volunteers have done an exceptional job in maintaining this well used facility in the northern suburbs. The trail, free & open to the public extends from Joondalup up to Yanchep National Park, passing under main roads but with no facilities (Ablution, drinking water, shelters etc) so plan a walk in advance. There are extensive plans (approved and budgeted) for a car park off the Burns Beach Road access as over the weekend the verge is lined with vehicles. Families, Mountain Bikers, Walkers/Trekkers, Runners etc are taking advantage of this great trail. There is information at the entrance to the trail from all accesses advising users of the dangers of walking bush.

Connecting East Perth is a hiker biker trail. The upgraded trail will be part of the City of Perth's $1.5 billion project to upgrade the city's hiker-biker network. The trail will improve access to the Swan River, and also stabilize the riverbank. The council also aims to improve the suburb of East Perth, which until recently has been grimy semi-industrial area.

The Memorial Walk has been tastefully incorporated in the flora of the park. If approaching from Mounts Bay Road, it begins at Kennedy Fountain and climbs 62m over 152 steps before becoming more amenable to my age group. Needless to say, neither my wife or I faced the challenge of the steps, but did gaze with awe at the young lady who completed a sprint to the top.
The track is a tribute to Australian servicemen who fought in PNG during WW11 and continues from the top of the steps to near the State War Memorial. Among the interesting plaques is one titled "Owers' Corner", the mountain cross-section giving an indication of the daunting Owen Stanley Ranges
