A strikingly beautiful harbourside space, this park has a large, open, green expanse right on the waterfront. The small bay is filled with moored boats. It couldn’t be more picturesque, looking across the water at the bobbing masts and luxury cruisers.
Majestic Moreton Bay Figs provide lots of shade and are very beautiful, with massive wave-like buttress roots and dense, spreading canopies.
A small bridge crosses over the stream that divides the park in two. Surprisingly this is a heritage-listed stormwater channel. It’s not particularly attractive and doesn’t even look noteworthy at all but apparently its one of the first nine purpose-built stormwater drains to be constructed in Sydney in the 1890s.
This is a great picnic spot, the only real drawback being that whilst there is decent street parking, it is time limited and it can be tight. On a weekend, the parking gods will have to be on your side.
Parking aside, its a very convenient and family-friendly space with most of the facilities that make life easy.
There’s a sizeable playground with a safety fence and nautical themed equipment. Even more conveniently, the kiosk and toilet block are right next to it. There are also sporting facilities with fields for soccer, rugby and cricket, a walking path that continues on to Yarranabbe Park and fitness training equipment.

If you can legally visit this venue during lockdown then your time will be well spent. Plenty of parking as well as an extensive kids playground area. The Kokoda Memorial walking track starts here and you get to enjoy the Parramatta River. Well worth the visit.

A small, multi tiered park that also contains a couple of sculptures and a fountain, the Fitzroy Gardens is home to a local market on Saturdays.

This green space sits a couple of blocks north of King Street. There seems to be things for all age groups to do here. There is wide open grassed areas for people to let their dogs have a run. There are a number of park benches and a substantial enclosed childrens playground on the western side. Quite a few large, shady trees dotted around too.

Constellation Playground is a reasonably good area for children to have lots of fun, but also for parents and others to have a good time too. There is plenty for children to play with and there certainly is a lot of ground on which to run. Adults have also some really good spots to sit and relax and have a picnic or a BBQ, or even to walk around and may be run. The views are not so bad, if you can get them, as there are some obstructions in the way, but with a bit of effort you can have some lovely views. The Iron Cove bridge, over Parramatta River, is just metres away and there are other parks around as well.

I took my son on a saturday.

It was very stressful, and I saw many kids get hurt. I was not impressed and spoke to a few of the other mothers also that felt it was OVER capacity.

their needs to be more supervision from staff and less children in the place. Not a place for the adult to relax thats for sure!

Harbourview Park is an old and neglected area. It's about a hundred years old, most probably much older, but that is irrelevant really. We were passing by the area recently and stopped by for a bit. It is overrun by uncontrolled growth. You really would not want to go in there. There are areas where visitors are meant to sit and relax and for children to play. But it just did not look like a very welcoming place. As for the "harbour views".... well, there aren't any, not that we could find, anyway! I don't know why it has the name!

We are traveling to Sydney in early August. We are just looking at things to do while there and one of the things we are considering is a visit to the zoo.
Can you guys help with suggestions and pros and cons for each. We specifically want to see the koalas and kangaroos.
Answer: Totally different experiences. Taronga is a large, traditional outdoors zoo. The Australian collection is very good and the zoo itself is quite scenic with great views across the harbor to the Opera House and Sydney. Getting there is easy via the ferry which is a fun trip in itself. I think I spent 4 hours at Taonga when I visited in November.

Wild Life is smaller and indoor. Many of the reviews indicate people thought it was way overpriced. It isn't cheap, but I wanted to see it anyway. I worked at having a very good experience. I was there when the doors opened, went on a non-holiday weekday and knew the times for all the zoo keeper talks. With the advance planning, I did enjoy the facility. The keeper talks were quite good and I had a chance to pet a wombat in their enclosure. The animals are in smaller enclosures than Taronga. I could get quite close, but I think Wildlife could easily become over-crowded and viewing would not be easy or enjoyable. I was at Wildlife Zoo for a couple hours which included all the morning keeper talks. I think most people spend less time. The route through the building leads you forward in one direction, but I did backtrack and returned to see the Tasi Devils who were hiding during my first pass by.

Koalas and 'roos at both facilities. It was the platypus that I found amazing!!! Enjoy, we see so few Australian animals in the US zoos, it was a treat!
