The Hyde Park Barracks Museum was the best museum we visited in Sydney - the free audio tour was very informative and personalized so each person could listen more or less to each area based on their interests.
The Hyde Park Barracks Museum is a brick building and compound designed by convict architect Francis Greenway between 1818 and 1819; originally built at the head of Macquarie Street to house convict men and boys.

... museums (including Hyde Park Barracks, Elizabeth Bay House, Museum of Sydney, etc. - as well as this museum). You can walk around the museum on your own and/or take a guided tour that is given once or twice a day.

Just to be clear, I am reviewing the History walk Customs House to Millers Point which is a self guided walking tour available from the tourist info at The Rocks.
Many people miss the opportunity to visit this free source of information, plenty of maps guides etc and an impressive scale model of the city.
