You need at least half an hour to visit this fascinating museum which houses one of the greatest treasures of Mazara - a late Hellenistic statue found in the ocean in 1998 by a Mazara fishing boat crew.
The setting of this museum however (it's a former church) is exceptional and it all leads to the famous and breathtaking bronze statue of the Dancing Satyr, found in the net of a local fishermen in 1998.

The walk around the salt pans as the sun was setting was magical followed by an aperitivo and snack at the restaurant/bar strategically located to take in the view from the setting sun before heading back to Trapani.
It is quite a small museum but the highlight of the visit is given by one of the current owners who delivers a very interesting and amusing talk on the history of salt production and the differences in quality bet...

Often overlooked in favour of the Cathedral across the road, the archdiocesan museum is in fact a real treasure house of paintings and interior architecture covering centuries of Palermo's history.
The guide who showed us round was very informative and we would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Palermo.

I found this museum just kept giving unexpected displays.

We enjoyed the excellent tour of the museum - examples from hundreds of years of artistry, beautifully illustrating the wide range of people and cultures that have inhabited (and inhabit) Sicily.
The great taste of the owner and the museum’s curators, their love to Sicilian art, history and culture, their attitudes to visitors made my time in Palermo unforgettable!

A lovely little museum of Phoenician artifacts housed in John Whitaker's former villa on the San Pantaleo Island.
The excellent Museo Whitaker holds a wealth of artifacts beautifully displayed!

Took a private tour to this beautiful church in a cave, it’s a steep, nail biting windy road but the views over Palermo are breathtaking.
I suggest you to visit the "Santuario di Santa Rosalia", a beautiful church and a great landscape.

Going outside of the museum is an archaeological park , the remains of a Roman villa contain a stunning mosaic & a well preserved Roman road are , to me , the highlights.
There are also more Roman remains in the park; part of a genuine Roman road and the fascinating groundworks of a Roman villa with some attractive mosaics.

Other famous works are the "Wooden Crucifix" by Pietro Ruzzolone 15th-16th century and "Portrait of a Youth" by Antonello Gagini son of Domenico Gagini who sculped "Virgin and Child" in the 1400's.
The collection has some of the best medieval collections I've ever seen, and does a wonderful job showing the transition from Medieval to Renaissance art I've ever seen.
