    A Night In the Tower
    We were in Zdar nod Sazavou to visit the Santini masterpiece - the church at Zelany Hora. We stayed in the old monastery that has been converted into a hotel. Our rooms were in the tower. The staff was excellent and the rooms were very nice. I do not recommend staying in the tower if you have a mobility problem. Access is by spiral staircase with a rope for a hand rail. The grounds around the facility are very pleasant. It was a good experience.

    Glimpse at what was
    They do a very good job at "re-creating" what was once a sizeable, thriving Jewish community. This tour came along w house tour adjacent to synagogue.

    beautiful state castle
    This state castle in Lipnice nad Sázavou is beautiful and large. It looks like a castle town just like I mentioned when describing the castle in Trenčín.
    The town of Lipnice is connected with J.Hašek-the author of the book "The Fate of Good Soldier Švejk".

    great little bridge
    Back in US, in Wilmington, DE, is a bridge that remind me of Europe. It gave me a great pleasure to drive or go over it. This bridge is like a miniature Charles bridge. A place to see if you are in the neighborhood.

    The Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Nicholas
    The Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Nicholas is a beautiful church from the 13th century in Zdar nad Sazavou . In the 18th century the interior was reconstructed by the famous architect Jan Blažej Santini Aichel. Beautiful altar.

    A very pleasant walk
    The National Monument of Eavesdropping refers to three reliefs carved into rocks in the flooded quarries near Lipnice nad Sazavou. There are located in the woods not far from each other along a signposted foot path, which is a few kilometres long. There are three reliefs: Bretschneider's ear, Mouth of Truth and Golden Eyes. In 2013, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Jaroslav Hašek, the fourth part of the memorial was added - Catch 22 referring to Joseph Heller's novel of the same name (called Head XXII in Czech).
    The starting point is on the main square in Lipnice, where you can learn more about the monuments as well as see the map and the routes. The walking path is clearly signposted using red, blue, yellow and green signs.

    Just over an hour from Prague
    This is just over an hours drive from Prague, but is will worth the trip. There is part of the monastery being converted into a hotel, but not sure it was fully open. But the level of detail of the reconstruction is absolutely amazing. There are restaurants and rest places there, as well as the guided tour around the whole site. It even has its own brewery, so slate your thirst at the same time

    Very nice place to visit
    When travelling nearby Sázava river you can try to visit "Hrad Ledeč nad Sázavou" which is very interesting place to visit. You can choose form several options what to see, I recommend also to visit a tower with beautiful view on the city. Whats more - it is very, very cheap. The castle stands on huge rock, the best view is from the opposite side of the Sázava river.
