What travelers are saying
- elena076Moscow, Russia298 contributionsI thoroughly enjoyed both the palace and the model train museum.
In the palace itself there are original or reconstructed rooms showing the aristocratic lifestyle of the 18th and 19th centuries. The most valuable part of the palace is Hungary’s sole intact aristocratic private library, which looks amazing.
The building of the Coach Museum used to be the stable and coach house of the central Festetics estate. Now it contains a fine collection of more than 50 coaches, carriages and sleighs from the golden age of coach and carriage manufacture. Some objects are really unique and the collection, in general, is one of the most diverse of its kind.
After a short leisurely walk across the well-kept park, you will see the Hunting museum, which also houses one of Europe’s largest model railway exhibitions.
75 trains run according to timetable on 2700 meters of tracks surrounded by 1800 buildings. The authentic trains are made up of engines, passenger cars and freight wagons of the 19th and 20th centuries. The rail network of the stations is based on aerial photos and original plans.
A small cafe at the palace is quite expensive, but worth popping in because of the peculiar collection of wall clocks.
The only negative thing which should be mentioned is the condition in which the birds are kept in the palm house. The cages have not been cleaned for ages and there was no fresh water at the time of our visit.Written March 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a permanent exhibition containing Hungarian and English language on information boards. Unfortunately there are some extra displays that are only written in Hungarian. If your children like history then they will find it interesting especially early life in the area. But otherwise it is not really for them. There is a modern outdoor wooden play area which young children will enjoy.
There is also a representation of how the lake could be non-existent within 200 years. Thank fully I will not be around then.
If you happen to be in Hungary on one of the important national days then all the museums are free, otherwise you have to pay.
Please read the review by Tiberiu Baranyi the explanation of the museum, it is excellent.Written October 23, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A visit to one of the exhibitions was already included in the ticket price. You can choose a full ticket with a visit to all expositions, but we limited ourselves to visiting the carriage museum. The museum presents carriages for all occasions: road, parade, children's, on runners. A number of carriages are replaced by cars. It was interesting!Written June 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Norbi SHuizhou, China183 contributionsThe amount of work that this creation required is really impressive and mesmerising. Beauty at its finest. I have never seen anything remotely close to this snail building on such a large scale. All of my family members were enthralled by the fascinating Snail Parliament. If it happens that you visit this area of Hungary, I would recommend not to miss out on this one.Written June 8, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lizara KSeoul195 contributionsThis museum by itself is a bit more expensive than the others in the group of seven, but it's also larger than the other ones I saw, so I didn't really think it was overpriced. It's nothing amazing if you've been to larger sex museums in Amsterdam or Korea, but it's quite entertaining for what it is. They have a lot of scenes from various erotic literature throughout the ages and have built wax figures reenacting a few highlights. Like the other museums in the seven, they charge (but don't enforce) a 400 forint photo fee, which is the only reason I'm not giving it a full 5 stars.Written May 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - morciandszamiDunakeszi, Hungary225 contributionsIn the middle of the pedestrian zone, You can visit this interesting small museum. You can learn a lot about the bath historie of the city. The exhibition is small, but on the other hand it is free of charge.Written February 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CodLIPiatra Neamt, Romania74 contributionsIf you want to spend a day on the northern part of Balaton lake, this is a nice destination. Not very large, but cozy and interesting. Several hundreds of dolls from 1800 onwards. It's not a necessary a destination, but something worthing a visit if you are nearby.Written September 8, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EwyenaCrowland, UK12,163 contributionsThis is also one of the 7 small museums in Keszthely which are in one group and can be visited with a group/collecting ticket. Not a big place, but it is very interesting by the way. Wax figurines in different scenes from the country history from the very beginning to the mid 1900's. The figures wear contemporary dresses, and there are information about their work. State founder, kings, princes, lords, military leaders, clerics and other famous people who did a lot for the country. Very nice to see the history and development in this small scene. One of the best of the 7 museums, I highly recommend to see.Written October 1, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OZS_ATWBudapest, Hungary3,100 contributionsAfter visiting the Festetics Castle we dropped in the House of Stoves located in the main street, spending a limited time.
There are about 70 stoves exhibited to get to know the baking, cooking and heating equipment of different regions.

- SiskoCluj-Napoca, Romania30 contributionsIf you ever lived in the communist era in Europe, you'll leave with a lot of memories brought back, as walking down the 5 rooms, each of them full of old, typical toys.Written August 30, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lizara KSeoul195 contributionsThis museum comprises a few small rooms which are packed with shelves full of various old things, from old cameras to Communist emblems to toys to medical equipment to a Czechoslovakian vibrator. For the price, it's definitely worth a stop, especially if you have the 2500 forint ticket for the 7 niche museums in town. Most exhibits could do with a little more labeling, and the 400 forint photo fee (requested, though not exactly enforced) that applies to each of those 7 museums is kind of a ripoff.Written May 27, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
