This is a pretty harbour area that is worth walking along when you are in town. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and bars along its front to stop for a drink or a bite to eat and take in the view.

We went here early on a December morning. The views are great over the town and the fjord. The tower is pleasant but not spectacular. We were there at 9.30am so able to take great pictures of the sunrise.

My partner wanted to see this ship which he did and got on it. It was cool. There were smaller vessels as well on the dock.

This one weekend event is like stepping back in time. The costumes, the shows, the market and activities. They try to show visitors what it might have been like living here in the middle ages. Lots to see and do. In 2019 the entrance was free.

First floor is an art museum and second floor houses changing exhibitions. I enjoyed both floors and thought the combination was great. The museum isn't very big, although big enough for a small town like Tønsberg. It's absolutely worth a visit! There is also a small café there, with a porch overviewing a small park, which is a really nice spot for coffee, regardless of whether you are entering the museum or not.

We went with friends, and had no expectations really, it beeing a small museum.
We were totally amazed. It was exceptional. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We spent hours in one room, reading all about the Norwegian kings, and how three brothers-probably- had ruled together for a while. The civil war lasted one hundred years, from 1130 to 1240, with only short periods of no fighting. So many pretenders claiming the throne. We learned about the Birkebeinere, whose name live on in the cross country skiing championship Birkebeiner rennet, held yearly
Then there was the Whale Hall, filled with skeletons of.numerous different types.
The biggest was of course the BlueWhale, 27 meters long...Jawdropping.
And the 4th viking ship found in Norway, just outside Tønsberg.
And much ,much more. On leaving, we learned that it was free entry the following day, so we went back.
The only thing that we were disappointed in, was the cafeteria. Give it a miss.

We parked the car in Tønsberg and took our bikes along the coastal bicycle route #1 towards Tjøme island and Verdens Ende. There is a separate bike path the entire way so we did not have to mix with cars at anytime. Impressive. There are some cafés, as well as a supermarket and gas stations along the path. You will also find a number of camping grounds. The scenery is mostly farmland and some forest, while Verdens Ende features stunning views of bare cliffs with open sea towards the North Sea.

A very special small museum, made by the towns sailors associations, with volunteering by their members and contributions from their (former) employers. You get to see ship models, reconstruction of life onboard and also some history from the families waiting at home.

Unique whaling history, also. If you get the opportunity, do ask questions to the volunteers in the museum, as you can get a lot of first hand stories that you get nowhere else. A lot of these guys went sailing as young as 15-16, as this was the common profession for many.

As it is run by volunteers, it is not always open. Usually open during summer, although you can order a guided visit all year rund. Worth considering if you are a group and can share the cost.

Which the tall leaf trees, almost like the Sherwood forest from Robin Hood. It is a small spot, and it doesn't take more than ten minutes to cross the wood, but give it a try anyway, in April it is a white and beautiful blanket of flowers there.

A memorial to Svend Foyn, a local best known for having introduced the modern exploding harpoon cannon and modern methods into whaling.
