A great place to taste world class wines in one of world's oldest wine regions. From really "old school" wine cellars (Marika néni, No. 12 my personal recommendation) to high tech wine bars, you will find all you need. If you like classy rose, visit "Ostoros wine bar", if you prefer the real 70's atmosphere than visit Marika néni. Love them both.

Went to Eger to try the ‘bulls blood’ wine. Saw the photos of this place online and it looked great. In person it was even more impressive.
The owner and wine maker was extraordinarily welcoming and even drove us into the city when he closed up.
The stunning setting alone makes the place worth visiting but the wine experience and hearing the history of setting up the journey made our day wonderful.

It is well worth visiting but do not expect the glamorous castles that are in many parts of Europe. This is a more uncovered ruins and reconstructed parts castle with great views over the town and some well presented history of various sieges and battles won and lost.

Nice historical castle, renovated some years ago so everything was in good condition and what we enjoyed is that it had displays but the rooms werent overly cluttered. Definitely recommend the guided tour, unfortunately they only had it in Hungarian when we went but our Hungarian friend translated for us and there is a lot of interesting information and stories during the tour. The guide, although young, was very well rehearsed and through our friend's translation we learned lots about the history of the castle. On some days they have various programs and activities but best to check ahead as there wasnt anything on the day we went (Sunday).
Also when you are finished at the castle check out the Fairy Garden (Tunderkert) behind the castle which is a beautiful spot to relax and cool down with a nice drink or ice cream after your castle explorations.

This is a beautifully restored case and one of only a few where the crown has been kept over the past 1000 years. Awesome out of the way day trip.

Super cave tour, grear tour guide, very helpful and lovely staff.

Unfortunately the directions were not very clear and some information online would have been more helpful but the tour itself was excellent.

The tour was held only in hungarian, but I got an information leaflet in english.

There are heaps of options. From expensive to budget friendly. We took the train drive up the hill, climbed the hill towards the cave and walked all the way to the parking lot. The train drive is enjoyable and I wouldn’t recommend walking up and down with children (ours are 6 and 8). The steep climb to the cave was awesome. Not just for the cave which was not that special. But for the views during the walk. While walking past all the stunning waterfalls there are places where you can eat and drink as well as playgrounds for the children. Enjoyable and beautiful all the way!

Don’t let the construction and renovation work deter you from visiting this amazing church. The artwork is incredibly impressive and yet, at the same time, light and happy which contrasts with the heavy and dark art in so many churches. This was the first attraction we encountered walking from the train station and really set the tone for a wonderful day!

Tokaj region is a hidden gem. Beautiful landscapes, amazing wines, friendly people, picturesque little towns and villages with fascinating history. It’s a 4 hour drive from Kraków, and I highly recommend it (I believe it will become a lot more popular in the future as a touristic destination).

Spending 60-90 minutes here was a surprising delight. Any thing that says modern tourist is an item we try to avoid. But this place kept coming up in the short list of places to see in Eger.
You have to start with some interest in rock music and or the Beatles. Once there this is a well curated exhibit and worth the admission
Be sure to see the intro movie down in the cellar.

Although I will admit that I preferred the narrow streets to the open squares, this heart of Eger is really worth a visit for its view of the castle. It was alive with families and adults, locals and tourists alike. It was well worth the visit.

I've been to many of the baths in Budapest, so figured I would check out the one in Eger. The price is much cheaper than in Budapest, and lockers/ changing areas are included (vs. costing extra in Budapest) which was a nice surprise. Note - bring 1000 HUF for the locker deposit, they don't have change or take cards.
