- Christopher LBristol, UK150 contributionsOn our cycle around the town we stumbled across the castle. It was very pretty with a most surrounding most sides. Sadly the exhibition was closed when we arrived.Written July 31, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John HShelburne, VT464 contributionsThe name Stoommachine Museum (Steam Machine Museum)describes it exactly. It is a collection of many examples of steam machinery and their various uses. It might be quite mysterious for those not mechanically minded. There are two boilers in excellent condition just inside the entrance which are often put to use to generate steam to power the machines. The notices are in Dutch, German and English. Most docents are marginally conversant in English. A yard out the back contains numerous examples of equipment which are terrestrial applications. There is one steam dredge afloat in the basin behind the museum. A very nice cafe is associated with the museum. For those who enjoy paintings, there is a mezzanine art gallery with collections by two excellent marine artists.Written May 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnneliesOxford, UK1 contributionAbsolutely fantastic museum. We were visiting from the UK with our 9 year old and his grandparents. Everyone was fully engaged and enjoying the experience! On leaving, my son stated “this is the best museum ever!” . Thank you!Written July 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alessandro MLiguria, Italy46 contributionsI booked via email a mooring for two sailing yachts, asking to be in front of the castle. They replied promptly with all the information and they reserved two places exactly in front of the castle. When I arrived I found two labels in the pier with the names of the two boats and I moored easily. The stay was wonderful and the personnel is very kind. The price is very low (compared to Mediterranean fees). Highly recommended!Written August 29, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Greg BThessaloniki, Greece50 contributionsWe went with friends and family, kids up to 6 y.o. included. Everyone enjoyed the visit, there were enough activities for the kids to do and the chocolate/cacao master was obsessed with cacao and the facts and was happy to tell and explain. Very enjoyable. The sold articles are also very tasty and rightly priced. Overall we enjoyed the visit. I would like to see a bit more "help along" at the bakery and chocolate side, but I am sure there are events for that. It would be nice if these were standard even at a small extra cost.Written November 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul HTipperary, Ireland292 contributionsPretty and accessible. Safe haven and close to town for all shopping. Lots of decent restaurants nearby.Written August 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,737 contributionsNamed after Bonifatius, a fundamentalist Christian missionary who lived in the 8th century, the church is the center of the Protestant community in Medemblik. Though the tower dates from the 1350s, it looks newer probably because of restoration/reconstruction work at the end of the 19th century. A colossal building in what is now a small city that once used to be a significant harbour on the Zuiderzee.Written November 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,737 contributionsPerhaps a good example of what to do with historic buildings. Since 2017 the church is not longer a religious place of worship, but a theater and a space where events take place. The new owners live there and also run a B&B at their place.
The former church is still an eyecatcher in the picturesque village of Twisk. The historic farmhouses along the main road 'dorpsweg' are another wonderful attraction.Written November 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. End 1980s it was decided to rebuild the old mill using elements of other historic mills in the vicinity. The "Herder" (Shepherd) now proudly stands, marking Medemblik's northern boundary.Written November 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,435 contributionsAs far as ex-town halls go, this one can’t be missed - literally! It is a huge and very unusual red brick building that is a real stand out feature of the town.Written July 2, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
