An impressive place. Very attractive building and grounds. You can watch the horses being trained outside in the morning. We had tickets for the show which is once a week on a Thursday at 12.00. Show is very good. It is about careful skill of the horses and riders. The only criticism I would have was the late start as it did not get going until 12.25 as they appeared to be waiting for various well dressed dignitaries to turn up who were all late. We had to miss the second half in order to catch a train. So go early and watch the horses train and don’t be in a rush to get away in case the show is delayed.

Well worth a visit, informative and interesting. The sherry tasting was well conducted and woven in with a tour of the bodegas.

Well organized, well presented and informative tour of one of the major sherry and brandy producers in Europe. Tasting along with tapas. Followed by a nice afternoon meal in the restaurant made for a charming day. Recommend.

Parked in a pay parking lot about two hundred meters from the bodega complex. Small spaces so rent a smaller car if you plan to drive there.

Saturday 30th April and we were sightseeing in Jerez and it was our intention to visit the Moorish Fortress, Alcazar on this visit to the City.

On our previous visit back in May 2022 we ran out of time so we just had a quick run around the walls.

On this occasion we had enough time, however, I misread the opening times and thought it closed at 4.30, in fact it was 14.30 opening at 09.30, so missed it once more.

As the entrance gate was open, we were able to stick our heads in and have a quick peek at the impressive buildings with their yellow and orange inside with the massive courtyard.

We did walk around the walls, with large gates and turrets, a bit restricted as part of the gardens, Almeda Vieja, were fenced off for works.

The entrance fee to the Alcazar is €5.

We had a great tour and tasting. The guide was good but seemed to struggle with clearly explaining the process and was corrected on a couple of occasions. We now have a better appreciation of sherry and we will certainly be purchasing more sherry as a result of the visit

We visited the winery on 8 October 2024. As the title references, this is off the beaten path, but a must if you want to try vinos de la tierra from the province of Cadiz. If you want to do a Sherry tasting go elsewhere. Fatima the owners daughter provided the three of us with the tour and tasting (in Spanish, they do have tours in English). The views from the terrace were amazing and those of you who have been to Napa/Somona will see why. We were able to walk along the vineyards and Fatima provided a lot of information about the history of the winery, the grapes sourced for their wines and answered our questions. The inside tour especially in the barrel room with their white Muelle de Olaso (Palomino Fino) was interesting. After the tour (about 40 minutes since we spent time discussing the grapes and wine making) we arrived into the beautiful dining room/hall where the tastings take place. We tried four wines: Muelle e Olaso, El Triangulo, Tintilla (Carrascal) and Garum and had a well prepared and delicious charcutie plate. At no time were we hurried so they could prepare another tasting. After the tasting we went into the other salon where you can purchase wine and taste wines by the flight/glass. There we were able to also taste Tintilla (Corchuelo). We ended up purchasing several bottles to bring home and share them with our friends. They do export some of their wines to the USA. The cost was 25 Euros and my wife and I kept saying that the tour, wines tasted and charcuterie plate compared to the wineries back home in Napa or Sonoma was a great deal . I definitely recommend this winery if you want to taste the excellent red wines and white wines from the tierra de Cadiz!

The market was typically Spanish and an interesting one and better than some and well worthy of a visit. The area visited had a focus on fish (tuna)

This was our first Sherry tour. It was an intimate tour of one of the smaller bodegas specialising in very old sherries. Great guide who was very knowledgable and took us through the intricacies of the process. Came away with a feeling of new knowledge. Tasting at the end was of VORS sherries- a real treat - some wonderfully complex drinks.
You then finish with access to the private art collection - this was high end Spanish art with paintings you may only have seen in monographs or books about specific artists or periods. You can wander at will and get up close to appreciate techniques (Goya, Murillo, Velasquez) that you would never get in the big galleries.
It’s at expensive end of the Sherry tastings market but the art and VORS’s are worth it.

An extremely interesting cathedral learning all about its history via a download. However this would work better with headphones so as to not let everyone hear the story. I'm sure these must cost very little so supply

“Hidden gem” doesn’t do this justice .. this is a fascinating voyage through time, a tour given personally by the Marquis of his beautiful palace, owned by his family for eight centuries. A feast of architectural delights and important paintings and sculptures, narrated against a theme of family history. Unmissable.

You can smell the sherry as you approach the building. We had a small personal tour guided by Maria, who was very knowledgeable. We learnt about the 3 grape varieties and the five categories of fortified wines. There are various options for the tasting. Pedro Ximénez was the sweetest, tasting like raisins, a lovely bouquet. Diez Merito was founded 150 years ago by two local men and it was originally called Diez Hermanos. Their sherry and port was awarded the royal seal and gained worldwide recognition.
