As an American who loves exploring historical rural Europe, I thoroughly enjoyed exploring this Abbey, a ruin that is still well preserved on the Muckross estate in Killarney National Park.
The ruins are just amazing with many rooms and even a partial 2nd floor to explore, and the center courtyard with its arches and columns and beautifully twisted Yew tree.

St. Colman's, the beautiful cathedral in Cobh, is a wonderful place to visit and reflect on the many travelers who attended Mass there before they ventured out on their long journeys to America!
Making our way to the gorgeous high altar area we saw the impressive finely crafted pulpit with a number of adjacent statues.

This small stone structure has some of the most remarkable stone masonry we've seen anywhere in the world, and that includes Incan architecture in Peru and Ancestral Pueblo architecture at Chaco Canyon.
Going back in history to the roots of Irish Christianity, this little gem shows you a perfect early Chritian prayer house, surrounded by hills and the sea.

The building is steeped in history and the cloister area is particularly stunning.
I also feel a certain connection to the abbey and Quin in general as my surname is featured on several of the grave markers.

I cannot recommend this Latin Mass highly enough for the prayerful reverence, attention to detail, and excellent sermons with Confessions offered before this Mass and an excellent choir.
... church.Regardless of religious beliefs, sit in complete silence, while the the hustle and bustle of the city outside is only meters away and admire the wonderful ornate interior and architecture of this place.

The various historical remains provide a fascinating insight into the history of Ardmore throughout the ages coupled with some of the best and most spectacular views we have enjoyed during our years in Ireland.
The Cathedral, Oratory, tower and grounds, as well as the views sweeping down to the seaside resort and fishing village, are breath-taking, spiritual, and a pure gift to vacation photographers.

Tour book praised the thatched roof cottages (which were nice), but the town also hosts The Holly Trinity Abbey which is spectacular, a castle and a very nice river walk.
Adare was a quaint little town, but we enjoyed the great city park across the street from the Holy Trinity Abbey Church.

St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral was one of the oldest church I visited in Ireland, it was built between 1865 and 1879 and a Victorian gothic style Cathedral, you can also find a Labyrinth at the back of the church....
We attended the Christmas carol and nine lessons service recently and it was both stunning to see the cathedral full of worshippers and to hear the amazing choir singing carols - seeing it as it should be seen.

During a walk of this wonderful town, we hit all the high points, being lovers of old structures, this church (built in the 1100 hundreds) was a must see for us.
A centuries old church reeking with history with its connection to local regiments of this garrison town and seafarers.

You can also light candles in the Abbey for 25c, and there's a wonderful little gift shop filled with holy souvenirs and a few toys and postcards and things, and a little cafe section to get a drink.

From the outside it is a strong and impressive looking house of worship and inside is welcoming and offers the visitor beautiful history and a place to reflect or to say a prayer if so desired.

This ruined abbey is on the sea shore at the end of an estuary, the monks sailed in and out until 1755 when the Lisbon tsunami filled the bay with sand.
The architecture is quite well preserved, and the location is stunningly beautiful.

'Wow', the modern architecture, a restoration of what now is an amazing church and so suitable in its charitable status, a humble place of worship and tranquil ambience.
There is daily Mass and it was lovely to hear some parts of the prayers said in Irish Gaelic.

The original structure was built in the 13th century and of course has been reconstructed over the centuries yet there is an oratory that may be the oldest section of the church.

As holy wells go, this is one of the more spectacular, with its cave like entrance and huge collection of intercession tokens posted all around the entrance .
This is the heart of old Ireland, predating Christianity, which came along and absorbed what what was important to the local population - the life-giving properties of water.

The church has a friary within it and its interior is beautiful, there are windows there by Harry Clarke, which are resplendent and very ornate, The altar is embellished with cloisoinne, and behind it is a window...
The Church is an example of simple English Gothic Revival.
