Excellent museum. Very interesting. Nice interactive exhibits. Friendly staff. Parking was easy on the weekend. The ketch in the middle of building was awesome.

In town for the AFL Gather Round and for someone who had partaken in a Western Australian Government Railway Apprenticeship during the Mid to Late 1970’s where Diesel Locomotives had taken over from the Steam Train Locomotives I found the Exhibition absolutely fascinating, bringing back many memories including the Garratt Locomotive, just a great collection that’s was well worth the visit.

My teenage son is a big aviation fan so we pretty much booked a weekend in Adelaide - flying up from Tassie - purely for a visit to this museum.

Thankfully it didn’t just live up to expectations, it exceeded them!

We got a cab out to the museum from the CBD, and thanks to the good directions on the website it wasn’t too much of a problem to find, even with the new entrance.

We found the entrance fee to be very reasonable, there was a small but well stocked gift shop, and the basic A4 print out of the collection was very helpful as we made our way round. We also bought the more detailed guide on our way out.

The collection of planes and memorabilia is very impressive - lots of space to walk around them, a good viewing gallery for taking photos, quite a few aircraft that you can actually step onboard and explore, and some very informative and interesting information boards.

We also found everyone we encountered from the volunteer/staff team to be very friendly and welcoming. A particular thanks to the person - sorry we didn’t catch his name - who gave us a lift to the train station when we were done to save us a second cab fare! Very generous and kind.

As an aviation fan, my son had an absolutely brilliant time. And even as the less-interested parent, I really enjoyed myself too. Hope to be back for a second visit before too long.

One of the better kept secret destinations in Adelaide. There are good stories to be told both about this unique ship's history and how it ended up under restoration in Adelaide. It complements a visit to the Migration Museum. With the project fully run by enthusiastic volunteers, visitors get good value from the tour guides.

Craft brewing is a thing in so many destinations now and Pirate Life has taken it to the next level. Not really "boutique" any more, they nevertheless offer a quality alternative to the local mass-market beer (which is pretty ordinary, to be honest). The venue is a coll hangout with lots of outdoor space, ideal for a summer session. And family friendly too. Food offering is 'comfort' style, which is perfectly appropriate for the setting. If you're a stout person, it's pretty good.

My 15 year old daughter loves to kayak, but rarely gets a chance, so with a Great State Voucher won, we booked into @dolphinsanctuarykayaktours to paddle around the dolphin sanctuary in a twin kayak.

Since I haven't kayaked since I was a teenager, I was nervous, but there was no need. Easy check in, warm welcome from Noah and Alex, well and quickly organised into two groups and after some key but quick learning about how to turn, stop, go forwards and backwards, and we were off.

We went into a mangrove channel, kayaked across to one of the shipwrecks for a sneaky peak and yes, we saw dolphins! And a hawk, jellyfish, crabs, fish, various water birds and either eagles or kites in the distance. Alex was brilliant, telling us interesting info all the way through, keeping everyone out of trouble and ensuring everyone was safe.

Superb morning, can't wait to go back!

The free bike hire service offered here is a great way to explore the area if you don't have a car and want to explore the Port as well as sights further afield like the City of Adelaide clipper ship. Helmet and lock are included; only ID is required. The lady was very helpful and friendly and there is also a useful selection of maps and brochures on offer.

The owner/curator has decided to close down this lovely shop on Christmas day, because of her health. There were many nice artistic things in the shop. I felt so sad, as she has contributed so much to the local community and has inspired many visitors.

I had to go to Port Adelaide on Tuesday around lunch time. So I decided to visit the Lighthouse and surrounding areas. It was very quiet and peaceful.
