- mike rBromsgrove, UK1,310 contributionsNot easy to find but you may stumble upon it as we did. This is an old style covered arcade with access via a narrow alley from the High Street. It opens up into a charming courtyard with a selection of cafes and mainly independent shops.
A good place to relax, have a coffee, keep dry and watch the world go by.Written July 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The centrepiece of the monument is a tall column surmounted by a bronze sculpture of the personification of Victory. At the base of the column is a bronze sculpture of a male figure. The figure is kneeling on one leg, while trying to bend a sword on his other leg, an allegorical breaking of the weapons of war.Written August 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - IAN DWigan, UK26,377 contributionsWe called in on way back to Gisburn having read about the quality of the meat on Google. You ring a bell and the farmers wife unlocks a door and takes you in a large fridge. We bought sirloin and rib eye steak and a homemade steak and ale pie. Prices are good. - Geoff HSissinghurst, UK18,042 contributionsBuilt by the owner of Skipton Castle to carry limestone mined from quarries on his estate, the Earl of Thanet's Springs Canal is a private canal running from Skipton Castle to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It was opened in 1774 and takes its name from the springs at the base of the escarpment on which Skipton Castle stands. A very intersting walk is to start at Mill Bridge, just below Skipton Castle, and follow the towpath alongside Eller Beck, pass underneath New Bridge to the junction with the Leeds and Liverpool canal and then return along Canal Street past the Royal Shepherd (once separate properties called Watson's Houses and, in 1851, having over 100 occupants) to Mill Bridge. Boards alongside the canal give full information on where you are and what you can see around you.Written September 30, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
