The aqueduct at Pont d'Ael (park the car and follow the signs through the village) was built by an extremely rich local entrepreneur in 3 B.C.
Even in September there were beautiful wild flowers and we spotted a couple of Apollo butterflies - an endangered species we don't see in the UK.

This is a splendid piece of Roman history, preserving as it does the inner and outer gates of the city, in direct line with the triumphal arch just along the road, outside the original walls.
They use at least part of one for regular use, if it were the us it would be a national landmark or something.
