The chapel and ossuary are simple but are a powerful reminder of the human cost of wars.
The Bones displayed in the ossuary are a tiny representation of the number of soldiers who died in the Battle of Solférino, whose aftermath inspired the foundation of the Red Cross. However there are already so many bones on show that it really emphasizes how destructive this battle, and many other of the Italian campaign were.
This doesn’t have to be a long visit, but it’s a powerful one and worth the detour.
