- suntan47Chelmsford, UK979 contributionsVisited as part of a tour group .
Lots of beautiful architecture to see here , pretty town squares, an abundance of restaurants & places to sit with a beer or ice cream & watch the world go by.
Part of a TV series was filmed here and in 2 nearby cities , so apparently it is a famous place .Written September 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was built in the C18th after the original cathedral in another part of the town was destroyed in an earthquake. The dome can be seen for miles around and it beautifully lit at night - we were lucky enough to be staying in a B&B nearby. Open 10 -12.30 and again 4-7. For those who enjoy watching the Inspector Montalbano series, you will recognise this church form the shows.Written August 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sally62Northampton, UK5,921 contributionsLovely public garden on the edge of Ragusa Ibla with a large fountain, tree-lined walks and some churches. A nice place to find some shade on a hot day. Has a small children's playground too and nice views of the surrounding countryside.Written August 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marilyn Bellfontaine18 contributionsWe loved Marina Di Ragusa! We spent January, February and March there. The Lungomare was beautiful! The whole long walkway including Lungomare Mediterraneo which our rental home was closer to was beautiful. The beach is a huge expanse with tan colored sand. We didn’t go swimming although my husband and I did go into the Mediterranean up to our knees and even in March it wasn’t freezing cold. We rented our 3 bedroom, two bathroom home from Ivan Franzoso at DELPOSTO.it. We had an outside kitchen where my husband quite often cooked breakfast and supper. We sat on a large south facing patio in the sun each morning. We could see the Mediterranean from that deck. The people in Marina Di Ragusa were very pleasant and although we didn’t speak Italian we managed just fine. The Marina there was full of so many boats, most of which were sail boats of all kinds. Marina Di Ragusa was safe and very well kept. Most often we ate at home but every restaurant we did go to had absolutely superb food… so good! Our favourite was Burger Art where we got a huge burger and fries for a very reasonable price. I do look forward to going back one day!Written December 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Diesel1952Southampton, UK210 contributionsWe managed to find it fairly easily despite what others have said. It’s about 1-1.5 kms after end of Andrea Doria and right at the end of new cycle track. Nice walk through woodland to the river estuary. Signs are a bit worn out, but worth the effort.Written June 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Joe C7 contributionsWe dealt with Virginia and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable and kind. She went out of her way to take us to the venue where we did the wine tasting. Well done .Written July 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- betteskidBoston, MA1,326 contributionsWe stopped here while walking around Ragusa-Ibla and enjoyed our tour of the palace. We were also able to learn quite a bit of the history of the place and the family as the tour was given by a member of the family. I would recommend adding this to your time in Ragusa-Ibla. There are also lovely views of the square and the Duomo from the palazzo.Written June 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AMsaysThornhill, Canada4,723 contributionsThis UNESCO WHS completed in 1694 shortly after the 1693 earthquake remains the main place of worship in Ragusa. The dome was added in 1783 to complete this impressive church.
The façade, divided by 5 columns is replete with carvings and sculptures. On the left side is the 50m bell tower. I noted statues of St. John the Baptist, St John the Evangelist, and the Immaculate Conception. The two sundials apparently measure time in “Italic hours” and “French hours”.
The interior built in the shape of a latin cross with resultant naves, bays, apses, and a majestic altar. The walls of the altar were frescoed with stories from St John the Baptist’s life. The paintings, sculptures and stonework add to an impressive interior.
All I could do as I sat there was marvel at how all the pieces inside that church, created over several eras just seemed to work together.Written February 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David FAlfrick, UK413 contributionsWe had a private tour of this lovely tiny theatre which is still in use for audiences perhaps of up to a hundred and part of a current family home. - Sally62Northampton, UK5,921 contributionsIf you are in Ragusa Ibla you must visit here. The only workshop to restore and paint traditional Sicilian carts, you are able to have a personal tour which lasts about an hour in which you learn all about the history of the carts, the meaning of the decorations and find out about how they restore the old carts. Worth checking ahead to find current visit times and to book a place. Really friendly and happy to answer your questions. They have also designed items for Dolce & Gabbana based on traditional designs. We bought a beautifully painted traditional wine container as a memento. Can't recommend highly enough.Written August 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
