you can visit a city made up of several layers! Greeks and Romans, the restoration of the cathedral is spectacularWritten February 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nice lakeside restaurant but on Sundays book or go early otherwise you will not get in!Written June 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dave sBude, UK712 contributionsImpressive site, originally thought to be a temple, but now confirmed as a market-place ..... or is it the other way round? ;-) You can see all there is to see from the street, so it's really not worth paying the extra 4 euros to actually go in.Written April 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike KPhoenix, AZ1,325 contributionsWe would not have found this 2000 year old testament to Roman engineering without our guide, Vincenzo. It is a visible reminder that their trademark of empire were their roads.Written October 9, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeni OShepton Mallet, UK14 contributionsA really lovely place for a nature walk (once you head up the steps to the right of the entrance gate). A fascinating history as well - formed in 1538 from a volcanic eruption, it is 'Europe's newest mountain' (we visited on its birthday!)
There is a more 'everyday' horizontal path that is nevertheless good for an amble with an ice-cream, equipped with picnic benches and the occasional bunch of yoofs, but the real deal is off up the steps: Following the main path, you suddenly find that what looks like an innocuous hill in fact has a breath-taking steep-sided (inaccessible I think) crater. We must have spotted at least half a dozen different butterfly species, plus innumerable lizards, moths, ants and birds - and this was on a cloudy day in early October!
My only criticism is that there could be better-marked routes and some 'TLC' is definitely required to the signs that do exist. Around the entrance there are informative boards about its geology and history, with QR codes linking to further information online - it looks like it was set up with great intentions and vision, but sadly it is all a bit tatty now. Truly deserves a generous makeover, and perhaps more info on the wildlife to be found here, for visiting foreign nature-lovers!Written October 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jeremyd141London, UK13 contributionsNot very exciting ruins and probably not a temple. More likely a very large municipal baths. There are better sites to see but if you are passing it will only 10 minutes or soWritten June 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
