I was very agreeably surprised to come across a fine example of Austrian/South German baroque in Italy, but then this area was attached to Italy only after the First World War. With the attached late medieval cloister, this is a must-visit to anyone interested in churches and church architecture.

If you are into hiking, this is the place to go. Brixen has built several hiking trails with a lot of attention to detail. Particularly the "Woody Walk" is a lot of fun for children and adults alike. Cable car is free with "Brixen Card".

We visited in mid September and are so glad we spent an afternoon here. It was a wonderful town to walk through, entering the churches and cloisters with beautiful courtyards and plazas. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Visit the dome as aprt of a guided tour, there is so much to learn about it. The frescoes of the cloister are absolutely spectacular.

The palazzo is no longer used for clergy but is now an exquisite museum. The rooms are furnished authentically, and the art collection is very nice.

This is an excellent museum for its content and the presentation of the many different artworks. You start on the ground floor with a cute, interesting set of cribs, many dating from the 18th century. The highlight of the collection is then upstairs. This is the sculpture collection, which starts around 1200 and is first rate. It is complemented by the many treasures that the Bishop collected or that were found in churches in the surrounding area. The quality is perhaps less once one reaches the Baropque and later periods, though there are a series of spectacular stoves that continue until the last part o the museum, the Hapsburg Apartments.

The church of St. Michael,is the parish church of central Brixen.
The first church was built in the 11th century in Ottonian style with a rectangular plan and apse.
The 72 metres high characteristic square tower (the 'White Tower') was erected in the middle of the 15th century.
In 1503 the chapel was rebuilt in the current Late Gothic forms.
The interior was completely redecorated into its current baroque style in the middle of the 18th century.
The frescoes of the vaults and the altarpiece with St Micheal are the masterpieces of the interior.
Next to the impressive cathedral, the St. Michael is the 'second' church in central Brixen.
    But also worth a visit.
    Admission is free.

Nice little side street, with this quite striking white tower. Like many of the streets, quite quirky little side streets and nothing entirely straight! Lovely character to the place

Part of our trip from Brennero to Verona, we loved this route with breathtaking views at every turn. Mostly downhill, with brief climbs, mostly off road and well signed. Suitable for families but downhills can be very steep so would advise caution with younger or reckless children.

Lovely palazzo and open squares. Bressanone was a pause for us from hiking but very welcome as a break.

Located beside the Bishop's Palace, this small garden is worth a look. It is a nice place to rest and relax. Well kept and played out, it is worth a visit.

In itself, this is just a lovely little arch next to the river bridge. The bridge is split into two paths for pedestrians and a central part for completely manic cyclists who travel at incredible speed! The walk along the river is also lovely.
