- Chad F1 contributionTook this road by accident mostly when I first moved to Arizona in 2008. I was taking my family who came to visit from Texas out to see Canyon Lake, and thought I found a short cut to Globe. Wrong! It was a 30 to 40 mile washboard teeth loosening/ heart racing road (in some sections).
It was very beautiful, but has some narrow, steep white knuckle driving sections. Like some areas where you are looking straight down into deep canyons on a very narrow road with hairpin turns... Felt like a workout by the time I reached pavement again 3 to 3.5 hours later...
The scenery was worth it, but I don't recommend the dirt section after tortilla flats over Lake Roosevelt Dam for people that dont like steep, narrow roads or driving on a rough dirt road for hours.Written April 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My husband passed away a year ago July 16th and I brought him home to TN because he had lived in Memphis for 20 years but we came to the Smokey Mountains a couple of times and he enjoyed hiking in the national parks. I asked if it would be possible to spread his ashes during the trail ride, Blaine the barn manager asked me if I wanted a private ride and I was blown away by the offer and said yes please. He not only carried my husband’s ashes but we took our time and made sure I was doing well with Nellie the horse. An amazing experience and just what I needed. - flbumblebee1 contributionHaving owned horses for years, I am always skeptical of tourist rides because of the way the horses are kept. C Ponies is wonderful! Their horses are well cared for and very healthy and happy. We saw dolphins during the swim. Yes, the horses swim and you stay on their backs! Did the 3 hour Peek a Boo trail. Was a bit apprehensive as only 2nd time on a horse but luckily the horses know what they are doing!!

- Miranda M1 contributionFantastic trail ride with a superb wrangler - we encountered a large herd of elk which unnerved the horses (all the riders in the group were experienced, as it was a longer ride), but our wrangler handled it all superbly and she was able to get us turned around and onto an alternative route. We'd definitely book another trail ride here next time we're in Estes!
Also, we did our research before booking this trail ride as we are very concerned about animal welfare. - Samantha L3 contributionsWent with my kids for their first horseback riding experience. We are from out of state and Christine made us feel right at home! The views were stunning, she was thorough and caring making sure we were comfortable. My 12, 11 and 7 year old all left asking when we were going for another ride saying it was an unforgettable experience. I would recommend Christine 100% and will be going back before leaving the state. They did a great job giving facts while riding while keeping up safe. - Crystal W4 contributionsA small group of us decided to go horseback riding while on vacation last week, including my 9-year-old daughter who had never ridden before. We were allowed to look around the stables, and even got to see one of the horses having their feet cleaned out.
I was a little surprised that there wasn't much instruction given prior to getting on the horses, and heading out on the trail, especially since we all registered as beginning riders. But, the horses were very mild and seemed very well trained to keep all of us safe. The staff who got us ready were very patient and very helpful in getting us on our horses, though, before heading out.
We got to talk with the owner, who happened to be there for a summer camp. He was super happy to share some of the information about the property and the area around us, though. It was nice to know a little more of the history.
All of us enjoyed the experience, and the team of people who took care of us. The path we took had some nice views of some of the natural wooded areas around the stables. Our guide Sabrina was amazing. She was funny and so knowledgeable. The horses were simply wonderful. It is great knowing that these horses are rescued and given a second chance to have a great life. This experience is one that I will never forget. My kids and I are experienced riders but we feel comfortable bringing friends who are new to riding here, we know they will be given calm, gentle horses and learn to love riding as we do.
