I've wanted to do this hike for a while but never quite found the time to do it. Climbed it yesterday with my boyfriend and we loved it. Easy to navigate (we did get lost once but we always do) and just long enough to make you feel like you've done a good walk without feeling too exhausted. Similarly with the difficulty level, it's a bit of a climb so some level of cardiovascular health is needed but you don't need to have Iron Man levels of fitness. The views are spectacular. Really quiet, feels like bit of a secret as its not a well known tourist spot. A really special place for me.

Whenever we are in the area we visit this waterfall, a very serene area even with the fall at full flow, couple of steps to stream crossing & viewing point need attention, only parking for 2 cars max. Defo worth 10 minutes out of your day.

The upper floor is still used for that and the lower level is the tourist information office. Some nice souvenirs and books and maps. The people working there were extremely friendly and helpful. George Washington’s father and two step brothers attended school just down the road from here. It is located right in the town center.

I've read some of the other reviews complaining about noisy doors and floor boards mm it's noisy heavy footed customers with no respect for others. We smiled as the cupboard couldn't rest against the wall and yes the floor wasn't level but it's 900years old and full of history.
It's a castle NOT a hotel. I've stayed in palaces and luxury hotels. Only stay if you enjoy history. As a retired senior caterer for many well known people I feel there's massive potential in areas . Well done to the present family owners and yes I'd love to own it. Such untapped potential. I love the castle. Cleaning and other bits can be improved. Take a torch and don't be negative if you love a 1000years you'll be needing a walking stick and kindness.
    Moaners probably not welcome 🤗🤗.
Take it in good spirits and hope you don't see any wondering past you 😁.

Real gem of a gallery - a must see if you are into art and pottery, especially printmaking. Friendly and helpful staff. Great coffee.

If you are walking up to the Castle you pass the almshouses which are known as St Ann's Hospital so don't miss popping in to have a look. They were founded in the 17th Century by Lady Anne Clifford for widows to have somewhere to live. You are welcome to go in the courtyard and have a look at the houses which are lived in and see the lovely flowers. The small chapel was open when we visited so we enjoyed having a look at that as well.

We were visiting Appleby for the day and visited the Parish Church which was damaged by the Scots in 1388 and rebuilt by Lady Anne Clifford who founded the Almshouses in the 17th Century. Her coffin was placed in a vault inside the church and there is a monument to the Clifford family and also a marble memorial to her mother. You can pick up a leaflet which you can follow when looking round the church and it explains the different parts of the church and the items you are passing.

Prices are a little high if I'm honest but the staff are amazing and the place is always nice and clean, good healthy environment for a leisure centre.

Lovely stop between Whitby and Glasgow. Beautiful walk along the sparkling Eden. People fly fishing. Lots of cafes and a 10/10 hardware shop on Appleby, worth exploring.

I can recommend the trip from Appleby to Settle on this fantastic line. Not only was the scenery along the way lovely, the staff were attentive and the train very comfortable and clean. The air-conditioning in July's heatwave was also welcome. As a bonus, we found Skipton a very interesting town
