my husband booked this spa as a surprise for my birthday and i was a bit dubious as i’d never even heard of this spa before. What a treat, the spa is clean and the staff are lovely and so polite, nothing is too much trouble. I had 2 treatments while i was there, both done by Nicky who is very good at her job. Shania who was on reception was also very friendly and polite.
i would recommend a half day spa, there is only so much relaxing one person can do.

thank you ladies for a superb afternoon

Had a 1 hour body scrub and facial which was excellent. All staff very kind and helpful, can’t praise them enough.
However facilities in the spa were disappointing. Too many people in the spa and not enough loungers for everyone. The loungers were extremely uncomfortable had to lie on solid wood. Spa was okay but small. Jacuzzi was good but plasters and hair seen on edges. Generally a little run down. Changing rooms very small and overcrowded. Whole area very noisy with treatment room doors not sound proof.
Afternoon tea in cramped area with instant coffee and no outside light. Don’t go here if you are claustrophobic.
The tea we had was quite nice if a little expensive.

This Spa Day was a belated 50th Birthday present from my work through Groupon. I tried to book this for my partner’s birthday at the end of January, but no one was available to do the treatments, so booked it for Saturday 17-02–23, only to get a call on the Thursday to say that work was being done on the changing rooms and the heated pool was not working properly, so rescheduled for Saturday 04-03-23. We arrived at the main reception at 10am and the friendly receptionist pointed us in the right direction of where we had to go for the Spa. When we got to the Spa, we were advised that the pool was still not heated and that someone tried to contact myself the day before, but I had no phone calls regarding this. We went to get changed, for which the Ladies changing rooms were very nice, but my partner said the agents was disgusting, dirty and paint peeling off the ceiling. We went into the pool and it was really cold, for which my partner was extremely disappointed, as he was looking forward to that the most, so he decided to go into the sauna and steam room. I joined him about 10 minutes later in the sauna, which was very poky and someone had left an apple core on the bench. The steam room was no better and while I love the heat, this was too much, as it was like being in a red hot fog and there were no aromatic/menthol oils to help you feel relaxed and calm , which is what we have had at other Spas. After this my partner went to get changed, while I stayed in a bit longer. Eventually, I got changed and met back up with him, as he had waited nearly an hour and a half for me and by this time, we had to go for our treatments. The treatment room was lovely, but a bit cold and the relaxation room was lovely too. After, we had our treatments, we went down for our cream tea, which consisted of 2 warm scones with jam and clotted cream, coffees, which came out way before the scones and a glass of Prosecco each. The scones were absolutely delicious, but overall the service was not great. For me the treatments and the cream tea made it, but considering the hotel is a beautiful building, which is being modernised and is in a stunning location in Buxton, the Spa facilities are extremely basic and poor. If these were done to a better standard, then you would attract more people and we would may be return in the future, but after this disappointing experience, we won’t be returning.
