- Jim RTonbridge, UK20 contributionsOur family including three grandchildren really enjoyed the experience of getting close up to the donkeys and learning about the history of the sanctuary. A special shout out to the restaurant which was brilliant - helpful staff, great food, and plenty of room despite the fact it was half term.Written June 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John HHalesowen, UK73 contributionsAn excellent garden showing a wide range of plants which are extremely rare and well cared by the diligent staff. Fantastic echium plants on show.Written June 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Steve BuckleyLondon, UK6,042 contributionsMy wife and myself are currently holidaying in Sidmouth staying at the excellent Mount Pleasant Hotel (Review to follow) which is directly opposite the Byes Riverside Park.
Indeed this is one of the main factors behind our choice of accommodation as our friends live in Fortescue which is a 30 minute walk from our Hotel. Indeed, Sidmouth’s lovely Seafront - the main focal point for the majority of visitors - is only a comfortable 10 minute walk away.
As such, most of the people who regularly use the Byes are locals enjoying a walk - often with their children or dog(s). It is most walker-friendly with lovely scenery (including a nice river) and something many visitors are simply missing out on - a shame but part of the attraction is that it never feels too busy!Written August 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I would highly recommend a visit to here!Written May 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JE-Wirral60 contributionsThe whole area is magical with breathtaking views. Wear decent walking shoes, can be steep and rugged. Well worth a visit particularly if you like walking. There are some seats scattered about for those who just want to relax and take in the views. Lovely area.Written May 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Paul BBrighton, UK1,507 contributionsWe parked at the National Trust car park near to the Observatory, walked through the woods and then out onto the coastal path, tracking along the coast path until we reached the steep downhill towards Sidmouth. There are some spectacular views of the red rocks of the Jurassic coastline. The downhill to Sidmouth and into the town was a great walk with views over Sidmouth (tougher going back!) and the town itself is fab, so we stopped for ice creams and some time on the beach. Total distance walked was around 5 miles, the youngest in the party was 7yrs and she managed it. Definite recommend.Written September 19, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Deborah RSidmouth, UK27 contributionsThis is a lovely place to take you dog for a walk with views across the valley and sea and always a fresh breeze.Written May 27, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FirenzeMammaDorset, UK79 contributionsThis is a nice little nature reserve with some wonderful views from the top. However, don't go at dusk as it's hard to find your way around in the dark - my mistake. In daylight, it's a lovely, manageable walk if you dont mind steep hills.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnpZ4299KQSidmouth, UK672 contributionsOn the southwest path. - DAVIDMS20050Emsworth, UK1,282 contributionsWe love Sidmouth and only the pandemic stopped our second visit until September 2022. The beach is clean and shelves slowly so is much used during the day by swimmers, paddleboarders and kayakers. However Saturday the 23rd was Sidmouth Carnival Day and from 6.00 p.m. onwards the promenade was packed with residents and visitors alike. After a meal we stood outside and were finally rewarded at about 7.40 with two fire engines, an ambulance and a coastguard truck with all their lights and sirens on [ blues and twos to those in the know] after that many brightly lighted floats followed both local and from all around Devon. Places such as Exeter, Seaton and Budleigh Salterton were taking part. It was well stewarded with only a slight delay leaving at 9.40 or so. The mainly youngsters taking part should be commended for their hard work and sheer inventiveness. The local ice cream and fish and chip shops had a bumper evening.Written September 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DevonboyontourExeter, UK166 contributionsThis is a fantastic 13 mile walk which is very easy to follow from the way markers. It’s got great variety and interest along the route with fabulous scenery. Although officially it starts in Sidmouth, with it being circular you can obviously start anywhere and we started it at White Cross where it’s easier and free to park. Another good starting point would be Sidbury where it’s easy to park.Written August 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AMPAngelSomerset, UK94 contributionsA small reserve tucked away as you walk up Peak Hill, but lovely that it's here. - alseward53Axminster, UK380 contributionsThis lovely garden ,whilst right in the middle of the town ,is a quiet hidden escape from the busy town. With lockdown in place there are several benches to sit and eat and drink your local takeaway items. Just relax and enjoy the many squirrels running aroundWritten November 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
