- David DDevon, UK28,490 contributionsThursday 10th August and we visited this beach located at the western end of Sidmouth Town. We reached the beach by walking along the town's Esplanade then joined the South West Coast Path.
The beach got it's name as it is home to Jacob's Ladder, a set of metal and wood steps that leads up to Connaught Gardens on top of the cliff. The Beach is also accessible via the steps.
The crescent shaped beach is enclosed by rather stunning red stone cliffs and coastline. Along part of the back of the Beach there are a number of beach huts with their brightly painted doors.
The beach which is nearly one kilometre long comprises of shingle and stones washed by the water's of the English Channel.
It is certainly a lot quieter than the main beach, closer to the Town.Written August 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim D247 contributionsVisited the town and beach to take advantage of a sunny day this Autumn. Parked up the hill, walked down and enjoyed Fist and Chips (Prospect Takeaway) and an ice cream. - VictoriaColwyn Bay, UK40 contributionsI visited Weston Mouth with my teenage son and our two dogs. We parked easily at a small car park in Weston then it was a 15 minute walk to the beach. The walk down isn't so bad with lovely views ofcthe beach. Like others have said, however, the walk back is all up hill and can be tiresome on a hot day. It might be tricky for small children.
The beach was completely deserted when we got there. The sea was quite rough but there was bad weather further up north that day. It is a very beautiful pebble beach surrounded by cliffs with rock pools to explore.Written August 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FirenzeMammaDorset, UK97 contributionsThis is a nice little nature reserve with some wonderful views from the top. However, don't go at dusk as it's hard to find your way around in the dark - my mistake. In daylight, it's a lovely, manageable walk if you dont mind steep hills.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DevonboyontourExeter, UK199 contributionsThis is a fantastic 13 mile walk which is very easy to follow from the way markers. It’s got great variety and interest along the route with fabulous scenery. Although officially it starts in Sidmouth, with it being circular you can obviously start anywhere and we started it at White Cross where it’s easier and free to park. Another good starting point would be Sidbury where it’s easy to park.Written August 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MissMercury_1Wolverhampton, UK268 contributionsI think it's wonderful that Sidmouth has a place like this! Everywhere should have one! As someone with both Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, I greatly appreciated it. It was lovely to have
multi-sensory experiences with the different plants and they looked especially attractive in the summer evening sunshine. Highly recommended for everyone. It's free and open 24/7 too! You can just walk around and enjoy!Written July 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a pleasant and well maintained walled garden just off the High Street and a quiet haven away from the town centre. We came here three times altogether during our stay. There's a large expanse of well kept grass, perfect for picnics, relaxing or ball games. There are ample benches to sit on and admire the view. My favourite thing about this garden were the squirrels! I really love squirrels and kept coming back to see if I could see any. There are lots of them happily running around. It's a peaceful place to come to and truly a hidden gem!Written July 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
