Hovedoya is a wooded island that is just a short hop by ferry from Aker Brygge. You can buy tickets (Zone 1…one price per trip) from the Ruter app or the kiosk near the ferry piers. Hovedoya has quiet woodland walks, and secluded beaches and rocky coves. The water is great for swimming (in the summer). There are the ruins of an old monastery which is worth a ramble through and a nice cafe serving snacks, meals, ice creams and even beer. It was sunny and warm when we visited and we easily spent 5 hours there. I would really recommend this trip to anyone…not sure what it would be like in winter though!!!

This is a little island with very nice and colourful houses, and beautiful views along its coast. Does not offer any particular attraction, but a very relaxing walk.

Langøyene is the only island near Oslo where you're allowed to camp and it's free! You just take the ferry with a normal public transport ticket, it will go every 30 minutes I think. The island is a really good place to put up a tent for some days, especially on a low budget. Officially camping is allowed for two days in a row but there are many longtime campers living there, so it shouldn't be a problem if you stay longer. Contra: There is no tap water, so bring a bottle or two. There is a kiosk but it's expensive and will only open when the wheater is good. There are also no showers and the toilets are disgusting.
When it's really warm you should be able to swim in the sea. Sunset is amazing!

Only app. 20 mins by boat from Oslo city centre, this small- ish island is a bit quieter than the other islands in the inner Oslo-fjord, and still provides all you need for a perfect little break from it all!
There are nice stops for swimming/ small beaches or from the cliffs, and there are noumerous walkways all over the island for some exploring. The island is part of a nature-reserve (Gressholmen- Rambergøya Naturreservat), and you can se over 160 spieces of birds here! Also a lot of endangered plants and flowers.
There is also a nice and cosy restaurant/ café, with a nice outdoor- area, and also toilets.

Located between Bygdøy and Lindøya, I visited Nakholmen on a beautiful sunny day. I would call it a complete island, with typical Norwegian houses, a bar and several areas where you can take a swim. A little paradise. What a view!
