A treasured place of worship, still extant from its completion in the mid 1100s. In the Romanesque style, it is surmised that it was built by King Olav.

It has been restored a number of times during the long centuries, and today is very impressive. It is the starting point for the Pilgrim Route to Trondheim. While visiting chatted to some people starting off on that long and holy trek.

Surrounded by a cemetery with headstones a number of them quite old. In the grounds is a lovely sculpture of a woman with head bowed and holding a garland of flowers.

It’s a beautiful edifice that was consecrated in 1891. In a lovely Neo-Gothic style, red brick and conical towers are outstanding.

A number of renowned organs emanate sonorous music for a congregation of around 600. Stained glass windows are vibrant.

An inspiring vista along the nave leads to an absorbing altarpiece by the artist Christen Brun.

The original chapel from 1903 was destroyed by arson in 1992.

The new chapel was completed in 1996 to resemble the original stave church.

The church was closed during our visit. So couldn't see the interior.

Its a large cemetery, but not especially pretty.
Would rather recommend visitors to visit VÃ¥r Frelsers Gravlund that is similar and contain the graves of Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Munch.

Lovely Cathedral, serving the local minority religion, though large, frequent, full services for the Polish community. definitely worth a visit.

One of the most beautiful churches in Oslo, in my opinion. It's more beautiful than the Oslo Cathedral.

It’s a wonderful building with facades of impressive granite. Predominantly in Neo-Gothic it also has elements of further styles.

Consecrated in 1903 it is a landmark for the congregation and has not far off 500 seats.

A timber ceiling crowns a fine nave with columns and arches leading to the holy altar area. Stained glass is another attractive feature.

This church was completed in 1892 in the Grünerløkka district, just opposite the Birkelunden Park.

The church has a German Gothic style. It has a high narrow tower above the entrance.

In Neo-Romanesque style its brick exteriors are impressive. A fine tower is one of its outstanding features, crowned by a quartet of smaller spires.

It was completed in the late 1860s and now has seating for around 800 of a congregation.

What a fantastic place! This church was build by the community members, they chose the architect and had a say in its design! The rocks in the ground were not blasted away, they were integrated into the building, the "imperfection" of the stone walls reflects the imperfection of humans, the altar piece is simply beautiful with its symbolism and its bright colours. Go and look for yourself! You won't regret it. You get a wonderful present.

Church was filled with families and new life. Like so many Norwegian Churches the service played host to a Baptism for a family who don't often attend.
Pastor Silje is warm and inviting.
The music was wonderful with an accomplished organist Hans. The singing of the parishioners filled the nave with songs of praise. Good solid sermon and lots of help from the congregation including two confirmation students. The time of fellowship afterwards was warm and welcoming -- a neighborhood Church that is alive and active and filled with God's presence.

Østre Aker church was built from 1857 to1860, The font carved in sandstone date back to 1860. The altar board is a crucifixion group carved in three by Thorleif Solberg from 1928, there are hardly any scuptures of saints. The decoration consists of glass painting: by Larsen 1928 depicting a scene where Jesus blesses the little children.

Do walk arround the church lawn and reach a path leads down to a small park with a statue of Mary Vigeland and to an old cemetery.

Homogenous within a row of buildings, its fine façade in granite is a landmark on the tree-lined Bygdøy allé.

Dating from 1907 it serves well its congregation. An impressive bell tower crowned with pyramidal green is lovely.

Grand stone craft adorns the entrance. Above the main door is a bas-relief of the Lamb of God.
