The context provided by our tour guide added to our experience in spite of a little rain.
Christian “ Chris” the history nerd gave us plenty to think about that enhanced our understanding of the park, museums, architecture and history of Oslo, Norway.

Oslo's city-sightseeing, hop-on, hop-off bus offers 14 stops. The buses have audio-guides in eight languages. One person on the bus stated that theirs did not work but I was unable to determine if the problem was the person operating the audio-guide or the mechanics of the system. The buses also offer free Wi-Fi. You can purchase a 24 or 48 hour pass and a cancellation policy can be activated 24 hours before the buyers date of activation.

The 14 stops include stops within the central city and some further out. If you were to ride the entire circuit without getting off it would take about 90 minutes. Waiting times for the next bus can be 5 minutes or 30 minutes. There are 5 buses and you have to change buses to reach all 14 stops. When you change buses the stop for you next bus can be hard to find and often a distance away. The Viking Ship Museum is one of those stops that is further out. There are 3 other museums within a 15 minute walk from the Viking museum including the Kon-Tiki museum. The $46.95 you pay for the bus does not include admission to the Royal Palace, museums or many other venues.

If you only want to see the central city sights you probably will be able to walk or utilize an excellent public transport system. Getting to the more remote stops make the the hop-on and hop-off bus more desirable. In any event you are not going to be able to stop at every location and appreciate all it has to offer in a 24 hour pass. The hop-on and hop-off bus is only offered from May to September 30.

Interesting overview of Oslo. We really enjoyed the insights and humor of the guide. He had in-depth knowledge of the sculptures at Frognerparken, and had clearly spent a lot of time there over the years which made viewing the park very informative.

This is a bus tour with lost time due to multiple pickup sites, and driver/guide allowing extra wait time for passengers who were not on time which resulted in very rushed stops. (Particularly at the ski jump stop).

    Good-to-know note ahead of booking:
A 5-hour tour is available, but option for booking on line through Trip Advisor only gave a 3-hour tour option. Please know you can upgrade on board the bus. We had not planned enough time to do so, but the second part sounded interesting and included a museum stop and more.

I have done several hop on tours in the US and Europe. This was the worst experience. The audio was so poor as to be unintelligible and the languages were not properly labeled. One driver flat out told us we couldn’t get on his bus and had to take the next one despite there plainly being space on his. I. Any day any of the drivers were friendly which is the opposite of what I had experienced on other hop on tours.

My wife and I were on a Baltic cruise and many cities were served by Stromma City Sightseeing buses. I spotted on the Stromma website that if you are doing multiple tours in different cities, if you keep your tickets, hand three tour tickets over and you get the fourth for free. So we paid for tickets (all bought online before leaving home at a discounted rate) for Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm and got the fourth tour (in Copenhagen) for free, which meant the relatively high price of the tickets became much more reasonable.

The down side to using these buses is that you often lose time in your day waiting for the next bus, some of the services finish mid-afternoon, and to be honest you often have to get off the bus and walk to see the cities properly, but as a means of getting a flavour of a new city they are a handy way of getting an orientation and seeing some highlights. If we have time we usually do a complete circuit on the bus and then use the second circuit to get off at a few places that were on our to-see list. We planned our days in advance using the maps and timetables on the Stromma website and all worked out pretty well.

Oslo is the best City I have ever been to.and I have been to some great cities all over the world.it’s so friendly.I went with my 10 year old son and we didn’t want to come home after 5 days.so much to see and do.food is fantastic.Went on the Oslo Fjord 2 hour cruise.book it when you get there it’s cheaper and easy to book.getting around is great 24 hour ticket for metro trams trains and the bus.kids are free in the train if under 16.I can’t praise it enough and can’t wait to go back.went with SAS and the flights were cheap from Manchester.

Far too expensive for almost nothing. Looks like rip off.
There better options like a bus tour with hop on hop off. Or just public transport.
