- Katie B13 contributionsHad a wonderful afternoon fatbiking with Mikel who was super patient and considerate. He got us started on the bikes, took us on to a lake to experience loose snow. Took us to the ski jumps which we climbed to sit and have a snack. He told us lots about things in Tromso on the frequent breaks necessary for me to catch my breath. Thank you Mikel.
Before the tour the folk in the shop were lovely allowing us to leave our luggage in their store while we went away for lunch and then during the tour. We had visited with them the day before, asking about renting e-bikes. We were greeted right away, and were out the door with our E-bikes by 10:30am. Everyone that we met from Tromso Outdoor was great! So friendly and helpful. Before we left the building we went through all of the rental formalities, including renting a saddle bag for my bike, to carry all of our stuff. A full day rental is 24hrs, but we had intended only to rent until just before shop closing time of 1700hrs. Our E-bikes worked great. We made something of a clockwise partial loop of the island, cutting through the middle of the island on the main bike trail. Along the way we stopped at the University museum, the ski jump area, and the botanical garden area. We had a great time touring the area on our e-bikes. And it was a joy to do business with Tromso Outdoor. First he arrived half an hour late in front of the Edge this morning without a warning. When he arrived he gave me a bad feeling but I decided to go anyway as it was too late to book anything else in Tromsø.
He made it sound like there were no photo stops planned. It was up to us the tourists to tell him when we wanted to take pictures. We had to ask to stop to take pictures of the Sommarøy bridge and to explain we wanted to be on the right side of the road where all the buses stopped!
At the beginning of the ride the driver was using his phone in his hands and taking calls. That is super dangerous!!!
When we went back into the car after the 1st stop, he started to drive while the man in the middle row was still leaning in the door to push back his seat. I had to yell to make the driver stop it was really scary.
While we were driving, he kept swerving into the middle of the road and we got honked at by several cars. The driver also never slowed down for bumps and holes in the road, so people on the back seat where flying in the air. I felt like I was on a roller coaster.
During lunch he took a picture or video of us without asking and did not stop when a lady told her she didn't like it.
Finally while we were driving in silence near Tromsø airport, he bumped the car into the one in front of us at a round about. This really proves he was driving dangerously the whole day. Note that his excuses were "sorry, it happens". Here's a picture for proof.
We were back in Tromsø at 2:45 pm instead of 4pm like promised. That is a total of almost 2 hours of visiting I paid for and didn't get!
