The palace is a wonderful building and the history associated with it is so interesting.
We booked on line the night before for a 12:00 time slot. We were able to look a round the Xmas market prior to entering the palace. The positive of visiting this time of year is the amazing market. The down side is the gardens aren’t showing their beauty quite so much. That said we spent quite some time walking the grounds and were still quite impressed.
Managed to crab some coffee and cake in the restaurant in the Gloriette too which is highly recommended.
It’s also really easy to get to from the Tube. Literally a 5 minute walk from Schonbrun Station on the U4 line.
Definitely one of the must see attractions when visiting Vienna and the Xmas market is an added bonus.

Ordered tickets online the night before which saved the hassle of quite a queue outside the palace to purchase tickets. On-line tickets can be downloaded to Apple wallet too which was convenient. Queued for 5 mins to enter but it was all quite efficient and although lots of people about it didn’t feel too oppressive when inside. Note the audio guide is an extra €5 Euros each but was quite informative when viewing the art works.
A very pleasant couple of hours spent admiring some incredible pieces of art.
Cafe is lovely too with huge selection of traditional cakes at reasonable prices.
Only down side was the Xmas market was not what we had expected. Certainly not as nice as some of the others we had visited.

I took a tour to the catacombs and I went up on both towers. I liked the view and the fact that I could take the elevator on the North Tower. Climbing the Stairs on South Tower didn’t worth it after I visited the North Tower. I’ve read about it in some reviews but still my curiosity won and I had to torture myself with that experiment. The church is stunning inside and outside. I visited it at least 5 times during the week of my travels.

LOVED the Vienna zoo!! Easily one of the best zoos we’ve ever been to. Was so worth the visit after looking for something to do one afternoon. Amazing collection of animals in very animal friendly surroundings.

It was perfect weather for strolling around the gardens. They’re vast with plenty to see. We didn’t pay to go into the maze, but would have if we had more time. The building is beautiful in itself. The Gloriette was magnificent and could be seen from a long distance away. There was some scaffolding and work being done. The restaurant at the top of the hill was lovely. We had coffee sitting out in the courtyard. In all a great trip and all free to visit.

Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. We were visiting friends there but did a lot of sightseeing too. Started with the Hop on Hop off bus to get our bearings, and then the next day went to Albertina museum, which was incredible. So many fabulous pieces all in one place, spent hours there. The did a walking tour with our friend to get a local's view.

We attended a performance of Die Frau ohne Schatten, which had its premiere a hundred years ago or so in this opera house. My bucket list includes the whim of seeing operas in every major opera house in Europe. The Wiener Staatsoper did not disappoint. Beautiful opera house. Wonderful musical performance. Major Gripe: It was very, very difficult to obtain tickets. This was not my first choice. But the operas for an entire week were sold out. I can't blame this on the Wiener Staatsoper, but if you are traveling to Vienna, plan way, way ahead of your trip.

We really came in here to see the paternoster lift in motion. Afraid we had missed it as we believed it to turn off at 4 we wandered the beautiful hallways in search of the lift. Eventually we had to ask a guard who pointed us in the right direction.
Enter via felderstrße entrance turn right and go through the doorway to the end of the hall. Opposite the new lift there is a corridor. Through the white door on the left is the lift - this is the bit we missed when trying to find it . You can ride in the lift all the way to the top and over. Don't be afraid!
Pretty fun thing to do for a quick stop! The rest of the building is beautiful and free to enter .

There are a handful of charming Baroque churches scattered around Innere Stadt including Peterskirche (St. Peter's Church) just off Grabenstraße. The church history dates back to the Middle Ages but the building you see today is from the early 18th-century and is fashioned after the Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica but at a significantly smaller scale.

The curved facade with towers is impressive, as is its bronze dome. Within you find a round nave, again similar to Baroque era churches you might have seen in Rome. The interior features delightful altars, ornate marble walls and inner cupola fresco that is worth spending some time to view and enjoy. Take a seat and just enjoy the beauty within Peterskirche before continuing onward with other intended sightseeing in this area of Vienna.

Nice place to visit on evening in Vienna. Maybe the craziest and coolest attractions, roller coasters, carousels, autordomes etc. Good atmosphere. Average food.
