What travelers are saying
- OllielollieLondonLondon64 contributionsWhen in Vienna, I often look to check what is on here or in its sister cinema De France. Comfortable and good value, though I didn't rate the coffee that I had just before the film, though the foyer is comfortableWritten October 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Nomigrace32Eastbourne, UK44 contributionsTired out from walking I fancied a film and ‘The Third Man’ was completely appropriate for this trip to Vienna. I didn’t know anything about it before. It’s a brilliant and engaging black and white film, a few bits of German though you don’t need to understand it to follow the story. The seat was so comfy in the Studio and I was so tired from the walking that my husband had to nudge me awake (not a reflection on the film). There’s a little seating area downstairs and you can buy drinks, sweets and fresh popcorn. If I lived in Vienna this would be one of my haunts for sure.Written November 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- JanjaZVienna, Austria61 contributionsSmall cinema on a good location in the middle of Mariahilfershtrasse and close to Metro station.
Small, selection of movies is limited, movies in English.Written September 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - VioMadrid, Spain20 contributionsBest cinema in Vienna together with Gartenbaukino. From the outside, the entrance with the mirrors, the posters, the tiny kiosk, the inside, all beautiful.Written January 20, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Philiale1 contributionThe Gartenbaukino manages to be both: nostalgic and up-to-date. Showing the most exciting films of todays Arthouse-world, aswell as retrospectives and special-screenings of classics, the Gartenbaukino is a real treat for film-lovers.The screen is huge, the architecture pleasent, the catering nice. Sometimes there are also film-related parties in the foyer. It's great that the cinema is still there, and i hope it will be there forever, forever ever.Written January 9, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tinwoodsman_OzMelbourne, Australia254 contributionsWe are musical theatre fans on holiday in Europe from Australia. We are fans of Stephen Schwartz, composer of Wicked, and noticed the flyer to this show, whilst we were in Vienna. We noticed Schwartz composed the score to this German musical and decided to attend. We were able to book good seats only a day or two prior on a weeknight.
English subtitles are available for non-German speakers on screens on the sides of the stage so you understand every word said. However, it is best not to be too distracted reading them as you miss the action on stage.
The show tells the story behind the creation of Mozart's opera The Magic Flute from the perspective of Emanuel Schikaneder and his wife Eleonore. Emanuel wrote the libretto for the opera.
The songs are catchy, the comedy is accessible and the costumes are dazzling.
Overall an enjoyable evening's entertainment.Written June 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - MahssaTehran, Iran802 contributionsI spent a pleasant evening there watching "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". The movie has was pretty small, but quite normal as I wanted to watch the original English version.
I must Say that the pop corn was also good.
It's a quiet cozy movie theater in heart of historical part of Vienna.Written September 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Ivan ŠZagreb, Croatia48 contributionsEvery cinephil should visit AFM. Not just to see excellent movies (which are very strong reason to go there) but to feel the atmosphere of better times and more relaxed times... At the AFM you can have a decent cup of coffee, buy different memorabilias (books, DVDs, posters etc), become a member of the Museum, carry out a research but eventually and unfortunately at one point you must leave the place.Written December 11, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TopsMADen Bosch, The Netherlands455 contributionsStopped here for lunch & sat outside....it would have been lovely as the sun was shining but the massive crane & truck unloading immediately next to our heads on a Saturday afternoon was a bit off putting! Not the restaurants fault though. The food however was very good, nothing fancy but all very tasty.Written September 18, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Neil KLiverpool, UK610,791 contributionsAlthough now a multi cinema screen building Apollo Das Kino was a wonderful looking building we passed as we were pub and bar hopping around this part of town and what a great find.
I love the various type of architectural styles Vienna possesses, from ancient, old and modern, theres something for everyone to enjoy and Apollo Das Kino was a building that caught my eye.
It looks like it's an art deco building, beautifully illuminated at night, made for some great photographic opportunities.
I never went to see a film here but I loved the look of this building which is located on a street called Gumpendorferstraße and most definitely well worth checking out.Written June 17, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - RodusNottingham, UK63 contributionsWhilst visiting Vienna, we went looking for a restaurant off the beaten track, we didn't need to go far as this place is only a short walk from the museum quarter.
The decor is old world and does not look as if it has not been changed in year, although it is very clean and interesting. The staff are very attentive and help to explain the menu. We went for lunch and it looks like local business men use this establishment, a clue to how nice the food is.Written December 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK610,791 contributionsWalking around the area towards Karlsplatz we came across this interesting looking theatre/cinema/ exhibition building,to be honest not sure what it was but it looked interesting ,it was just closing for the night when we passed but we could see some artwork on the walls through the windows and the word Kino possibly alludes to some cinemagraphic offerings, not sure but on my next holiday to Vienna I am most certainly going to visit here.
Easy to locate on Schwarzenbergplatz and most definitely well worth checking outWritten June 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - RoscoRugby, UK11 contributionsVery old school feel. Sound of pop corn popping away. Very authentic. Really enjoyed the movie. “House that jack built” was different and worth a watch.
However... the seats are rather uncomfortable. That aside, I really enjoyed my time there.Written December 17, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - cieffffeProvince of Milan, Italy35 contributionsThe cinema is beautiful, with a nice bar and ‘waiting’ room.
Problem is they answer to emails 1/4 of the time so is hard to organize beforehand if you are a turist.
I went to see a movie with a friend and they said thee was only 1 spot left and they could open further spots that atm were on hold in 10 minutes. After 5 they prolly did because they said something in german that we didnt undeestand that caused some movement.
I promptly went to the cashier and got the second ticket but since we were the first to arrive this wasnt nice. If we had waited as instructed we wouldnt have seen the movie.
Clean bathrooms and nice popcorns.Written March 10, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
