The palace is a wonderful building and the history associated with it is so interesting.
We booked on line the night before for a 12:00 time slot. We were able to look a round the Xmas market prior to entering the palace. The positive of visiting this time of year is the amazing market. The down side is the gardens aren’t showing their beauty quite so much. That said we spent quite some time walking the grounds and were still quite impressed.
Managed to crab some coffee and cake in the restaurant in the Gloriette too which is highly recommended.
It’s also really easy to get to from the Tube. Literally a 5 minute walk from Schonbrun Station on the U4 line.
Definitely one of the must see attractions when visiting Vienna and the Xmas market is an added bonus.

City with warm people and rich culture and architecture. Loved every inch of it.

Ordered tickets online the night before which saved the hassle of quite a queue outside the palace to purchase tickets. On-line tickets can be downloaded to Apple wallet too which was convenient. Queued for 5 mins to enter but it was all quite efficient and although lots of people about it didn’t feel too oppressive when inside. Note the audio guide is an extra €5 Euros each but was quite informative when viewing the art works.
A very pleasant couple of hours spent admiring some incredible pieces of art.
Cafe is lovely too with huge selection of traditional cakes at reasonable prices.
Only down side was the Xmas market was not what we had expected. Certainly not as nice as some of the others we had visited.

I took a tour to the catacombs and I went up on both towers. I liked the view and the fact that I could take the elevator on the North Tower. Climbing the Stairs on South Tower didn’t worth it after I visited the North Tower. I’ve read about it in some reviews but still my curiosity won and I had to torture myself with that experiment. The church is stunning inside and outside. I visited it at least 5 times during the week of my travels.

It was perfect weather for strolling around the gardens. They’re vast with plenty to see. We didn’t pay to go into the maze, but would have if we had more time. The building is beautiful in itself. The Gloriette was magnificent and could be seen from a long distance away. There was some scaffolding and work being done. The restaurant at the top of the hill was lovely. We had coffee sitting out in the courtyard. In all a great trip and all free to visit.

A very beautiful library with classic Architecture. The entrance itself was a little confusing to find . We weren't the only ones entering the national library entrance next to the information to find we were in the wrong place! The entrance is actually in a courtyard through the archway if you are confused! Bit pricey for the ticket as it is just one room but you get what you come for!

We really came in here to see the paternoster lift in motion. Afraid we had missed it as we believed it to turn off at 4 we wandered the beautiful hallways in search of the lift. Eventually we had to ask a guard who pointed us in the right direction.
Enter via felderstrße entrance turn right and go through the doorway to the end of the hall. Opposite the new lift there is a corridor. Through the white door on the left is the lift - this is the bit we missed when trying to find it . You can ride in the lift all the way to the top and over. Don't be afraid!
Pretty fun thing to do for a quick stop! The rest of the building is beautiful and free to enter .

There are a handful of charming Baroque churches scattered around Innere Stadt including Peterskirche (St. Peter's Church) just off Grabenstraße. The church history dates back to the Middle Ages but the building you see today is from the early 18th-century and is fashioned after the Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica but at a significantly smaller scale.

The curved facade with towers is impressive, as is its bronze dome. Within you find a round nave, again similar to Baroque era churches you might have seen in Rome. The interior features delightful altars, ornate marble walls and inner cupola fresco that is worth spending some time to view and enjoy. Take a seat and just enjoy the beauty within Peterskirche before continuing onward with other intended sightseeing in this area of Vienna.

Very busy area with lots of shops and cafes. The gorgeous St Stephens cathedral is situated within the heart of the area. Whilst it does have many designer and normal shops it is also very touristy. Worth a visit nonetheless

Constructed in 1872 in the Neo-Gothic style, Rathausplatz serves as the seat of local government housing the Mayor of Vienna’s office and city council chambers. This building was briefly the world’s tallest building (1892-94) and still exudes a magnificent presence.

The building offers Monday, Wednesday, and Friday guided tours and also hosts various events on the grounds.

My husband and I had an opportunity to tour the Ringstrasse with a group of seniors. During our walking tour, we stopped to hear about the history and take in the magnificent architecture. This is the site of the old city walls, grand residences, the Hofburg Palace, and the Spanish Riding School.

Also noteworthy is the grand Vienna State Opera, the Parliament, and City Hall. A visit to Stephens Cathedral is a must! Don’t miss this area. So much to enjoy and a wonderful photo op.

This was such a great outing. It was a lot of fun to search for famous graves, and attend the Funeral Museum while there. Such a nice change for vising old Palaces and Cathedrals.

The graves of famous composers were clustered together, and somewhat central - that made them easy to find. Took us a while to find Falco. But with the help of groundskeeping staff, we found that as well.

I never thought to look out for the wild hamsters that this cemetery is known for - had I remembered, I would have made a concerted effort to look during our visit. But low and behold, one hamster practically ran up my wife's leg while we were exiting at the main cemetery road (no where near a shrub or tombstone). I think it was seeking reprieve from the horribly strong winds that day. So adorable. Great way to end our visit.

Very interesting architecture. Have never seen anything like this before. A little out of the way from touristy things but glad we stopped here. If you only have 1 day in Vienna, there are other attractions that are worth seeing more.
