- David APreston, UK500 contributionsHaving visited Nicosia, I felt that I should go through the border in to Turkish Cyprus. The procedure is straightforward as you just show your passport at both ends. There is definitely a different feel to the Turkish side. Whilst there you can visit Buyuk Han - interesting without being amazing.Written March 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We would like to come back after reopening it. Originally it was built aa a Gothic church, and the kings of Cyprus were crowned here. It was called St. Sophia Cathedral until 1954. Nowadays it’s the main mosque of Nicosia.Written April 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The monastery is not huge, but it is well kept. You can access the church part. There is also a show with the gifts you would expect. The views are fantastic. You can drive several km to one of the villages for lunch.Written August 18, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MaryTucson, AZ35 contributionsSizewise this is more of a small chapel. There is not a surface anywhere that isn't covered with exquisite artwork associated with Orthodox Church. The entire complex is important for many reasons including Archbishop Mackarios who was president of Cyprus and active in unification of Cyprus with Greece. Next door to this are special cars allegedly given to him by the USA as well as government buildings. I had an outstanding guide who knows history. She made the entire history of Cyprus clear to me for the the first time.Written March 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
