Nice walk along the promenade. There’s a few restaurants where one can have lunch or simply a coffee with some cake.
The area is very historical too.

not sure how to rate this as it depends on what you are looking for. They are interesting and have a beauty about them and the area is stunning in its nature - if it is worth a special trip depends on how easy that trip is. We drove out and it was easy. not sure if I would bus out for it.

The City Gate into Valletta is a pretty impressive entrance to this historic City. In Maltese it is called "Bieb il-Belt", which literally translates to "Door of the City". Over the history of Valletta there have been five City Gates on this spot. The current one being built between 2011 and 2014 to designs of the Italian architect Renzo Piano. The first gate was built in 1569 and stood for around 70 years before being rebuilt. This 5th gate project was controversial with the Maltese with some liking it and others have different opinions. It is not a gate as such but more of a grand entrance over the deep ditch and through the vastly thick bastions of the old city fortifications. Personally I like it and walking through into the city's Freedom Square with Republic Street ahead of you is a memorable experience. Visited the gate in August 2019 and again in July 2021 and enjoyed it both times.

Very relaxing stroll down the main street in Mdina with lots of interesting architecture, balconies and door knockers to look at.

Great views of Malta from the wall ramparts above the square. You can see Valletta and Mosta Dome in the distance.

Came across this whilst doing the State rooms and the Armoury at the Grandmasters Palace. A great little space where we sat for a bit to take in the surrounds and to rest our weary feet. A lovely spot, hidden from beyond the palace walls.

The apartment in which we were staying is in this street. We had no idea of the length and historical significance.
From the western end it is a truly magnificent sight.
But to get a true feeling of the street, you have to walk it. It puts San Francisco to shame.

Promenade cafe - small kiosk located directly at the promenade. Very fine maltese desserts and one of the best espressi on the island! Nice sunny garden area at the shore
