The Grandmaster's Palace has a rich history and should have been a highlight of our trip to Malta what which incredible vaulted ceilings, ancient artwork and tapestries, etc etc BUT the place is under renovations! The armory is cool but the displays are dusty and dated, the elevator didn't work to get us to the 2nd floor (my 80 year old mother managed with the stairs, but it exhausted her)., there were no chairs to sit and listen to the audio guide, we would have loved a docent to explain more of what we saw, and overall, the place needs a curator. In some rooms, the lights made a glare so that you cannot see the paintings - I suspect a curator would have seen that and fixed it. The opposite problem was in the main chapel which was so dark that we could barely make out the tapestries. Despite all the negatives, I truly believe that in 2-3 years the Palace will be a real gem to behold.

As you enter Valletta , coming from the Triton fountain - past the main gate of the city, you shall find this building.
When I first visited Valletta in 2011 in was still under construction - it was finished in 2015 - so I was interested to see what was the result.
Should you ask me , the architects managed to integrate this newly build Parliament building into the structure of the city of Valletta and to be honest it does fit. As least as I see it, this integration of modern into the Old city of Valletta was/is a success.
So when you are in the area, check it ...

The nice building opposite Grandmasters Palace was originally guards house to accommodate the personal guards of Grand Master of the Order of St. John. The Coat of Arms on the external facade of the building indicated the British rule in Malta. From 1987 onward, the building became an annex office to the Attorney General.
